Last Summer I came across an unbelievable deal on a Federalist style buffet for $50. The catch was that I had to pick up in literally the back of beyond. I swear to God that I had to drive to the back of beyond / Tennessee to pick this mother up and the absolute, Gods’s honest truth? This was a strange and putrid trip ya’ll. I had to dodge at least 5 dead skunks to get to the seller!!!!!! Hand to God! Lord have mercy the stench was unbearable …….. but I wanted this buffet like a dog wants a bone.
And ya’ll know me………..
All the way back home I had absolutely NO color on my mind. Zero. So there it has sat , out in the garage ever since…… till a couple weeks ago :). Big Daddy very politely asked if we might take some interest in this very large piece in order for us to be able to exit the garage without having to scrape by this behemoth of a piece of furniture, as we try to exit the garage so we can go to work.
That’s not asking too much……..
I had a dark gray color on my mind for the buffet but I didn’t have enough of any one gray paint to cover the entire piece. True to form I mixed all the gray shade together and come up with a really stylish dark gray that was perfect for the large and stately buffet!
Lord……..the legs!
Ya’ll had to have seen that coming. I love those Federalist legs!
So after the buffet was all finished and ready for the shop, I went nuts with all kind of textiles in the same colors………
Dark gray quilt, custom gray geometric pillows and king pillow shams joined the party!
Use what you got ya’ll !
Today, it”s gray.

Gorgeous! Were those the original pulls? I might have gone for a more aged/antique brass finish, but the bright brass of those iis quite striking against the deep, Rich tone of the gray. It’s lovely!

Leslie thank you so much! I try to use the original hardware if I can. Hepplewhite is my absolute favorite. The pulls on this one didn’t shine up like I wanted them to so I used a bit of Rub N buff in the shade of European Gold . That did the trick!

Paige, what a beautiful piece! I love the dark gray color and stained top! I have a similar stained buffet in my dining room! It is one of my prized pieces of furniture! Thanks for sharing yours!

Carla thank you so much! If I had my pick of pieces I’d do antique buffets all day long! They are just so elegant!

Your talents go far beyond the magic you do with furniture. You’re a gifted storyteller as well. I can picture the trip to collect this piece.
This is a beautiful piece.
