Many, MANY years ago Big Daddy and I went to see Author and Humorist Lewis Grizzard . Now Mr. Grizzard also wrote for the Atlanta Journal Constitution . But on this evening he was doing his one man show. I’m pretty sure he told every funny story he ever knew and I distinctly remember that my face hurt from laughing all evening! I can’t recall much about the show 35+ years ago except that it was hilarious and one more thing. And to this very day there is one of Mr Grizzard’s bits that we still use in this house. The word in question:
naked
Now normal people or anyone from the northern or western part of our country might not get this. And years later we still use this expression. A lot of people think we talk funny down here. Well, the state of Georgia has its own dialect. Naked means you have no clothes on. To quote Mr. Grizzard ‘ Nekkid means you have no clothes AND you are up to sumthin’.
Ya’ll……… this piece is nekkid.
I bought this chest from a very nice couple in Asheville. I honest to God not figure out why type of wood it was due to how dark the original wood stain was. Come to find out, it is walnut. There was no way I was putting paint on it.
Now it took a while to sand all the old finish off the piece to get it down to nekkid. But just look at all the amazing wood grain. The weather around here was also uncooperative . Well, its January……..
I really love the liner paper. When I bought the paper it was listed as black. In actuality it’s a dark gray and white paper. And I’m glad about that. This piece has a lot going on.
Gray is just a softer color.
I have used these knobs on several other pieces of furniture. They are classic and do not distract from the woodgrain. They are also substantial enough to pull these big heavy drawers open easily . When it came time to seal the piece piece I used a newer to me clear furniture wax that I am loving. It seals the wood without darkening the it. When the wood dries it is still the color it was before it was sealed.
Ya’ll we finally got some snow all day yesterday and we never got out of our feety pajamas! Ya’ll have a great week ahead!

I totally agree with your choice. It’s too pretty to hide.
The staging is perfect. I like seeing how the monkey moves around.
