Years ago, as a young bride I brought home a single Amaryllis bulb in the hopes that I could keep alive. We had our very first set of kittens then and they were as wild and as crazy as they come. So I potted up the bulb and sat it in a sunny window in our guest and closed the door tight. I recall enjoying every time I went in that guest room to water it and how quickly it grew taller. The day that I opened the door and it was in full bloom I had never seen anything like it! Fast forward to 2021, I walked into Walmart after Thanksgiving and in the garden center were pots on top of pots of Amaryllis kits! I grabbed two in the color Red Lion and headed for home! This year I managed to find two large Amaryllis bulbs at a local hardware store and off I went home to pot them up!
That very first Amaryllis, the one I potted up as a new bride was an Apple Blossom and I never forgot it. These that I grew this Christmas are Apple Blossoms as well. I potted them up in a couple footed ironstone bowls and every day Big Daddy and watched them grow. My two wild monkeys never bothered them at all 🙂
I love that bit of lime green in the very center go the bloom!
Here’s to a wonderful, happy and healthy New Year !
Much love,
