You can’t judge a book by its cover. Sound advice , always has been. This is meant as sound advice in life. Today we are talking about less than perfect or old outdated furniture. Ya’ll know by now I always go for the bargain furniture every time.
Today’s Victim:
This is my latest acquisition for $50 and even I thought I overpaid. As with everything I rehab, I have learned to trust the paint…… and the hardware….. and the drawer liners. Then its a whole new life for this one. It just takes a some work.
Are the pumpkin too much or am I just pushing it ?
I started this whole project by sanding the original finish off the top and 4 of the drawers. Once they were smooth as silk I re stained the lot and went to work on the parts of the dresser that I wanted to paint……… three coats of a cream color that I actually mixed in my kitchen from bits of leftover paints. Paint is probably the single biggest consumable that I use. I buy good paint, one that self primes and self levels. As we are talking about cost here the second biggest expense is drawer hardware. Nice hardware is important not just to have something to hold on to to get those drawers out. It is a part that actually adds style to the piece itself, an identity .
Same goes for the drawer liners.
Except for IKEA, when have you ever seen lined drawers in a new piece of furniture? When I saw this dr eucalyptus drawer paper the hunt for drawer liners was over. It is a pretty paper but being able to take a damp cloth and wipe out the drawers when need is so nice.
The pine top was restrained in Minwax Honey.
That shade has become a favorite .
I took her down to the shop yesterday.
I placed the ad for her today.
We will see how long it takes for her to find a home.
The temps and the leaves are starting to fall here!!!!! I bought my first pumpkin of the year last Friday.
Have a great week ya’ll!
