Last Saturday morning I was doing my usual…….. I had my New Orleans coffee in my new favorite mug, fat free half & half and vanilla creamer. I was already stretched out in my recliner, watching another Murder, Death , Kill as Big Daddy refers to any TV show I watch that has crime in it……..at 6:00am. Somewhere between the retelling of the crime and the trial details I got up for a second cup of coffee and flipped through Facebook Marketplace and found this:
Red as hell but pretty nice and the price was amazing at $40 ! I thought about sending a message right there and then but thought better of it as not all humans are a 55 year old menopausal insomniac. But the longer ai sat there the more excited I got and at eight am I hit send. An hour later this buffet was in my Murano. Not this is not an antique. It is not even a vintage piece. it was probably 10-15 years old, in great shape and I love the details of the piece.
I usually start a piece by sanding the old finish off the top and I was floored!
See what I mean?
I also DIY’ed my own Boho basket gallery wall while I was at it. I had been picking up secondhand basket in thrift stores that reminded me of things I’ve seen on Pinterest. The big basket in the middle I got from Habitat for $4. Of course I spent half an hour cutting loose all the plastic flowers someone before me had wired to it. The basket in the upper left that looks like a spider web I got for $8 actually at Dollar General .
I actually have eight of the woven hyacinth chargers that I also got at Dollar General for $2 each several years ago on the right. The black and white dotted salad plate I used for some contrast. The only actual BOHO basket that I ought retail was the the middle one on the left. It was $12 on Amazon.
I got lucky again with the hardware already on this buffet. I loved the bail pulls I did think that they were too shiny for the matte black paint I used . I highly dusted them with Rub n Buff for more of a matte and darker / softer gold tone.
Each of those side cabinets has lots of storage.
For the matte black paint I mixed General Finishes Lamp Black with Valspar’s Cabinet and Furniture pain in the color Black Magic. I like the combo of decorative paint and a cabinet paint because it more durable for everyday use.
One More…….
Happy Memorial Day weekend ya’ll………Freedom ain’t free!
