A few weeks ago I walked in to my lucky Goodwill on my lunch hour from my day job and found something amazing……..
Lord, Have. Mercy.
I mean what in the world else can you say when you walk right up on a 1920’s Jacobean buffet……… for $50.
So help me God, $50! Now, it is a National Fact that this era of furniture is my very favorite. It is also a fact that my Murano was full, FULL to the gills with other furniture and I had to leave this beauty there for another day in order to offload the stuff in my car. Two days later Big Daddy drove me back to pick it up in his SUV, and this next part is the honest to God truth: As the super nice Goodwill man was sliding it in to Big Daddy’s ride? The women in line behind us yelled out her car window, “GREAT FIND!!”
We have spoken about my new obsession with the Valspar Cabinet & Furniture paint, right? I love it. And we all know that these BIG dark stained antiques can bleed through paint like a big bad word, yes? So I put this paint line to the test……..
Big Daddy suggested painting the piece off white……..and I went with just that.
These legs get me every time :))
The detail on these old pieces just tugs at my heart ya’ll.
The curves, the legs and the sheer size of this piece is just amazing to me .
I chose big substantial mercury glass knobs from Hobby Lobby for those big deep drawers. I have looked at these knobs for some time now and never pulled the trigger on them because of their size but they fit this piece perfectly.
The drawers and the cubbies on each side I lined in a black and white wallpaper that is one of my favorites.
I reminds me of toile.
The top is stained in a 50/50 mix go Minwax Weathered Oak and Driftwood. I love it when there is a lot of interesting patterns in the grain. This one did not disappoint.
She is sooooo pretty ya’ll.
The small knob on the cubbies are also from Hobby Lobby.
She is now down at the shop :))))))
FYI, it took 3 coats of the Valspar to cover this buffet but not one bit of bleed through:)))
