Ya’ll life has been interesting around here this past month.
And by interesting I mean a BIG pain in my A$$. Five weeks ago I was sitting in my Jeep in the parking lot of Sweeten Creek Antiques, parked, engine off trying to make a phone call when a guy slammed in to my Jeep with his Honda CRV. The force of the impact knocked me three feet, Jeep and all. Five weeks of paying for a rental car myself later, the guys’s insurance finally declared my Jeep totaled. I cried. I loved that Jeep. Plus it had been paid for for years. I picked up my new car, a Murano last Friday and it is a very nice one but I still miss my Jeep.
In the middle of this mess I also had my second COVID shot. I had no problems with shot #1 at all. Let me just say right now that I don’t do well with vaccinations historically The second shot laid me out, fever and every corner of man on fire. Would I do it all over again? Absolutely. It is a huge piece of mind for me , my family and my patients.
This weekend I finally felt like picking up a paintbrush:))))
Really good bones but a bit worse for wear.
This was a $40 find on FB Marketplace. The last owner was moving and I grabbed it up quick. It’s a vintage Ethan Allen piece, says the stamp in one of the drawers. I really hadn’t noticed it until I started lining the drawers. The original finish was all but gone so I ran my orbital sander over the entire piece to get rid of any finish that was left to have a nice even and smooth surface to work with.
Down at Sweeten Creek Antiques there’s is a vender who sells the Dixie Belle furniture paint line. This line is called Silk. It’s their One Step paint line. This color is called Black Sands. It’s a rich charcoal color and the coverage is perfect!
I chose an antique brass / almost champagne cup pull for this piece and I am crazy about how that finish looks against the charcoal paint! They really up the game on this dresser in my humble opinion. The glass and antique brass knobs I found at Hobby Lobby. I will include a link to the pulls at the end of this post for anyone one who is interested in them.
The maple top was sanded down and then restrained with Minwax Driftwood. I wanted a lighter top on this one. I wanted some contrast between the dark paint color and lighter natural wood. I really love the result!
The drawers in this one are HUGE!
I had just enough of the cherry blossom wallpaper to line the bottom three drawers.
I don’t usually mix wallpapers in a piece but on this one I made a small exception. There top drawer of the dresser is divided in to three compartments. I chose a gray ticking striped paper for those areas and I love the effect it has :)))
Have a great first week of Spring ya’ll!

So sorry to hear about your vaccination challenge!! We got both of ours done as well, and I agree with you; the peace of mind is so totally worth it! And your Jeep — oh no! You two were like a team, scooping up crates of furniture to be re-painted and re-loved! I totally get your loss!!
So, I’ve been ‘away’ lately and just catching up, but I was not able leave a comment in some of your more recent posts. But I do want to comment on the “Balsam”. Even though you didn’t have a before shot, I was immediately struck by how feminine that little piece is, and the color you painted it really played up how sweet and pretty it is! And then the Candace Olson paper and glass knobs were absolute perfection! You don’t just paint furniture; you breathe new life into your pieces !! Amazing!!
