Three weeks ago I ran to Goodwill over my lunch hour in hopes of finding some goodies or even a piece of junk furniture. In other word……… like I do multiple times every week. The only stick of furniture they had that I was even remotely interested in was an great BIG antique chest of drawers that looked ok but was missing several pulls, so I kept walking. As my luck goes, I had not been back in the office more than a few minutes when the nice folks at Sweeten Creek Antique (where I have my shop) sent me a text to let me know that I was getting low on furniture. It actually said, ‘Paint Girl Paint!!!!!
So the very next day at lunch…………
They have to climb all over every single inch of every single thing I bring home, be it a big fat chest or the mail, my hand to God ya’ll. I actually remember when Lily was a tiny baby painting several pieces with her asleep in my lap.
When the nice folks at the Goodwill brought the chest out the back I took all the drawers out to pack them separately, in the hopes of lightening the load for when we unloaded it at home. Low and behold I found two of the missing pulls under the drawers! That still letf two additional pulls I had to find so I got on Etsy and looked for them honestly, like a crazy girl. Two days later it paid off !!!!!
It took over a week to get my two missing pulls from Michigan. The ones I actually had were black and gummy so I put all of the pieces in a ceramic plate and covered it with brass cleaner. That stuff stinks like ammonia but it sure cleaned up these beautiful bail pulls. Obviously I will do a lot for original hardware.
I originally pained this chest in Fusion Mineral paint’s Midnight Blue, two coats of it. Now I have used Fusion for several years and had no trouble at all with it, until now. The brush marks were awful! So I ended up re painting (again 2 more coats) it in General Finishes Coastal Blue and I could not be happier. Costal blue is a deeper, darker navy and really covered the Fusion brush marks super well.
For the drawers I used a wallpaper from Wayfare that was on closeout. I am not a regular Wayfare shopper so I am not sure what made me even go to their website but I am glad I did.
These two big bottom drawers both have the dividers :)))))
Here’s the link to the paper:
$23 for a big fat roll!
For the natural mahogany top I used Minwax stain’s Driftwood and sealed it in Minwax poly in satin finish, 3 coats of it over 3 days.
This one was absolutely worth every bit of the work I put in to it. It is very LARGE, solid and beautiful piece of well made furniture . Now I just need to find the person who loves it like I do.
Paige 🙂

Carole you are so kind to say that. It’s a special piece to me. I hope whoever gets it loves it as much as I do.
