When I like something, I really like it. And by really like, I mean I will absolutely run it in to the ground. I have said on multiple occasions that I heart French Provincial furniture.
Meet the newest French piece 🙂
This French Provincial desk was darling all on it’s own. I actually found it in the ‘cheap seats’ area in my local Habitat Retstore. They have the nice, often overpriced furniture section on a different floor and then they have the way, way better priced but beat up stuff in the same place as the secondhand kitchen cabinets . I don’t find a lot of my pieces at Restore almost always due to the price but Restore is still in my regular stop rotation , just in case.
If you paint furniture long enough you are bound to have little dabs of paint lying around , but not enough to actually paint an entire dresser. I had 4 almost empty cans of gray paint (from three different paint companies) that combined made just enough of a pretty dark gray to paint this desk.
I used another peel and stick wallpaper/ shelf paper that I will link at the bottom of this post (and all others of this type) for anyone who is interested. This one is a gray and white buffalo check and I am really happy with the combination on this French desk. The thing about these wallpapers slash shelf paper is the price is a fraction of most of the actual wallpaper that I use. The not so great news is it’s thinner than traditional wallpaper. It tears easily . I have to really get my $H!T together and slow down, take my time and not run mach 10 through the drawer lining stage. The drawer liner paper is easy to measure, cut, apply and trim. Just take your time with it.
You know Ima throw my favorite crystal ball knob in whenever I can 🙂
The bail pulls I found on Amazon. As much as I love French furniture I really don’t like the traditional hardware.
Just fancy enough…… 🙂
Now some commotion for that top!
This top is walnut . So far as I know I have never refinished walnut in my life. I do have a sneaking suspicion that this is not the original top. God bless who ever loved this desk enough to go the trouble of replacing it. It is truly amazing! I stained it in Minwax Driftwood and the color fits the piece perfectly!
One more :))))
Thanks for coming to see me ya’ll!

Beautiful! I love everything you do in navy blue, but this gray is gorgeous! It’s wonderful when I check your site and find a new piece you have redone with your magic. Annette

Gorgeous! If I lived nearby I would buy that in a minute. The wood top is really beautiful, the wood grain so nice. Do you poly the gray paint, or wax it?

Thank you so much for kind words 😳. The majority of the paint I use is self sealing .

It turned out fantastic! I love the crystal knob 🙂 It’s always the small bits that make the difference, isn’t it? Thank you for sharing!
