Ya’ll let me first say that I apologize for the unannounced silence around here. Big Daddy and I have been working on a kitchen refresh and as Thanksgiving is just days away we have been on a mission to finish in time. I have really missed ya’ll !
Today I have a pretty special piece to share. I picked this big thing up in Rosman, NC which I believe is a Native American word for hellofalongway to drive to get it.
I think it was worth it……. thoughts?
What I am about to tell you is this piece is the very reason you must widen your search criteria on Facebook Marketplace: This is obviously a buffet or sideboard (depending which part of the country you are from). On FB it was listed as a dresser. Just a useful tip for the avid furniture refinisher.
I chose the jewelry before I chose the color on this one. The color is General Finishes Lamp Black mixed with a bit of leftover GF Coal Black chalk paint. I really lend toward antique brass hardware any time I paint black or dark navy. In my opinion antique brass will warm up a dark color and provide a bit of contrast and sparkle.
The knobs are from Hobby Lobby and they came with the cool backplate on this. FYI? Hobby Lobby also sells backplates separately. I think they have 3 or 4 styles.
This is not an antique or vintage piece of furniture. It is actually quite new. Does it look familiar to anyone? I am saving the before shot for last 🙂
The original top finished was sanded down to raw wood and re stained with Minwax Jacobean and sealed with Minwax Poly in a satin finish. The warm wood tones really work well against the black.
For the drawers and shelves I used a peel and stick wallpaper in a black and white fish scale pattern. I love the pattern on this paper! It is quite a mod choice for me but I love how it just works with this piece.
Thoughts?
Yep.
Ikea Hemnes :)))
Happy Thanksgiving Ya’ll!

Rosman is literally’ Hell & Gone ‘from my house. I’m really glad I stuck out that drive though. This piece was well worth it.

Susan thanks you! It was easy on this one. Give it a little black dress and some jewelry 🙂

Oh my goodness!! Couldn’t have been more surprised at the “before” picture!! Paige, you really did this piece justice—it is simply perfect. The fish scale wallpaper inside is just the right nod toward the piece’s modern beginnings—what a triumph! Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving and enjoy cooking in your new-ish kitchen! Cheers!! 🍷
