Big Daddy and I have been working like crazy people for the past couple weeks out it the garage and I can honestly say that it is now a really nice place to work in! I’m not real sure how it’s gonna work in February but right now it’s a pretty sweet setup :)))))
Today I would like to show ya’ll the very first piece that I refinished 100% in the garage……
This desk has been in our garage so long I can’t even tell ya’ll where it came from, let alone when I brought it home with me. And you better believe that I am kicking my own butt for not refinishing it sooner. I love this style of desk and try to grab them on a pretty regular basis. They are usually affordable and quite versatile, from desk to entry or console table. I painted this one in one of my very favorite greens, Fusion Mineral paint’s Bayberry.
It is a lovely olive green.
The antique brass cup pulls were an Amazon find and I just love them. The color sort of lends itself toward a champagne color, if that makes any sense at all. They look way more expensive that they actually are. I will include the link to them at the bottom of the post.
I went with a black and white geometric paper for the drawers, making the desk feel a bit more modern, maybe even a bit industrial. I love the combo, the olive with the black & white. Nothing is competing. It’s a simple classic style. The link to this product will also be at the bottom as well.
The top was a mess.
It appeared that someone had used this as a workbench of sorts, lots of deep gouges and cut marks. I sanded off what was left of the original finish and restrained it with Minwax Provincial . It’s a warm lighter color than I usually go with but I didn’t want to end up with a really dark heavy top on this lovely green.
Thoughts?
The weekend is upon us ya’ll ……. make it a great one!

Love love love the green color and the hardware!!!
Me too Sheryl ❤️❤️❤️
paige, the lighter top is the perfect complement to the bayberry!! i have that same bayberry in my stash and turn to it often. look forward to each of your posts. love your style!!!….kathie
Kathy thank you so much for the compliments!
I’m not a massive fan of green, mostly because of the hunter green color of the uniform I had to wear at school for years, that was decades ago now and, while it took a while, I’ve gradually embraced green again. The one exception to my former aversion to green is olive, which I love, both in decor and clothing, especially in autumn. Love the bayberry color on this nice desk and the lighter color of the top definitely was a perfect choice, along with the warm tones of the hardware. Nice job!
Leslie thank you for the story and we have that olive in common . It is also my favorite shade of green at Christmas.
I think you said it yourself — it’s classic and timeless! What I see is is that you respect the furniture you paint; the pieces evolve into a second life and are still in many ways true to their first life (does that even make sense ??) ! Anyway…. I would love to see a post about your garage and how you work in it! I can’t be the only one who would love a little peek ‘behind-the-scenes’ !!
Yes my friend you make perfect sense ! I try anyway :))). Ive been thinking about that garage post as well .
Yes, please! A garage post would be great!!
