This weekend I got it in my crazy little head that I wanted to do another piece of furniture using FrogTape’s ShapeTape. Allow me to give ya’ll the backstory on this one. A few years ago the painter’s tape company FrogTape came out with what they have termed ShapeTape. The line had three options, Sclloped, Wavey and Chevron. Apparently I was very late to that party as it only came to my attention this past Summer when I saw a post on Instagram from a fellow furniture artist who was using ShapeTape on her latest project and I could not take my eyes off it! Here’s a weird fact about me: On Instagram , I only follow Rock Stars and Furniture Artists……
Go figure.
In my opinion the pattern the ShapeTable makes is the star of the show, so to speak. The actual furniture piece needs to be as simple as possible so as to not overshadow the design. Case in point : I won’t be doing any ShapeTaping on an incredibly ornate French piece. It would be way, WAY too much. I have had the perfect victim out in my workshop (formerly know as The Hell Hole) for a couple weeks and this weekend was it’s turn at bat.
So here’s the deal, it you apply this tape correctly and carefully you will have the most crisp edges ya’ll!
I usually start on the sides, making sure that each side is the same height and wrap the tape all the way around to the frame the drawer goes in. Next I slide in the drawer flush with that frame and apply the tape to drawer front. It should look like one continuous scallop. The tape is pretty forgiving . You can pull it up and reposition it but be gentle. If you pull too hard you will stretch it and your scallop will be all outa shape. Use a tape measure to make sure all the peaks are the same height and you are golden.
Nosey boy!
The drawer liner is a Candace Olsen watercolor peel and stick wallpaper . The colors are so lovely almost like the sea, from blue to green and back again.
I will include the links to all the products used in this particular post. Theses will be affiliated links, meaning I make a small commission from your purchase while your actual cost stays the same.
The top is stained in Minwax Provincial and sealed with their poly.
One more :))))
I have ya’ll are happy & healthy and enjoying the changing leaves!
