A couple months back I scored this antique chest of drawers form a friend / coworker.
You may recall……
Gorgeous piece, great original hardware in exceptional condition. All those qualities in one piece of furniture? I do not get that luck very often. When Susan sent me the photos of the chest, she also sent this :
And it has been sitting patiently, out in The Hell Hole for it’s turn at bat.
Well, it’s time was this weekend.
I went with the same dark blue as I used on the chest, General Finishes Midnight Blue chalk paint. The chest flew out of my shop like it had wings on it! Historically, navy blue is wildly popular in my shop, making it a safe bet, but given the same antique brass pulls and the fact that I personally love navy blue, I really didn’t entertain any other colors.
The original knobs were really showing their age so I hit the Hobby Lobby for there blue, white and shiny brass ones for $2 each. But when I put them on they literally stuck out like a sore thumb. Somewhere in my bag of tricks (see Great Big Cabinet!) I knew that I had a tiny tube of Rub ‘n Buff in Antique Brass somewhere. I applied it to the knob’s back plate and the center pin ( with my finger tip) and it look so much better!
So here’s an interesting fact. The top of the chest, the first piece in this pair was a big pain the my @ss. Seriously . I sanded the old finish off using 3 grades of sandpaper till it was silky smooth and then applied my stain. 24 hours later the stain was blotchy and ruff as a pine cone. I was livid ya’ll !!!! I had hand sanded that top down 3 times total and to this day I don’t know who, what or why???
Same set of events on this vanity.
It’s a good thing I love this vanity …….
For the drawers I used a beautiful navy and coral Jacobean paper from Society6.
Here’s the affiliated link to the paper:
Just one more :)))
FYI:
I dug out all my pumpkins this weekend ya’ll …. just putting the out there.

Gorgeous! I’m a VERY big fan of navy blue, too, and it is spectacular when accented seasonally with orange pumpkins…so convenient! And Rub n Buff is the best thing for toning down screaming bright brass. Lovely job there!
