No, I am serious……….
See what I mean???
The shape is definitely Bombay Chest –ish. This chest was a yard sale find for $20 and it’s been sitting in my garage ever since. The biggest reason it was left to die out there is it’s weight. Ya’ll it weighs a bloomin’ ton!!! So the junk furniture well is running pretty low here in the Asheville area, I got desperate and Big Daddy hepled me get it up on the porch and I took it from there.
Part of the weight is this top. It was once attached with a long piano type hinge. Judging from the ragged edge and the hinge only attached on one side, the top was heaver than the base. the wood was splintered all to hell from somebody slinging the heavy lid open and finally spilt off in several places. So the piano hinge had to go. The only other hurdle was the ink stain on the top. My orbital and an 80 grit sanding disk took care of that !
She’ a curvy thang :))))))
The body is painted in Annie Sloan olive chalk paint and I love how it plays with the provincial stain on the pine top ! Both are warm earthy colors.
I sanded the top smooth but left some of the dings and gouges. I like h0w a dark stain will collect in the imperfections and I’d like to keep that quality.
Personally I would use this for a coffee or side table or at the foot of a bed.
It is sturdy enough to sit on and has ample storage.
I hope to deliver it to the shop in the morning 🙂
