Way, way back in the very back of my paint cabinet I found a brand new, never opened can of General Finishes Midnight Blue chalk paint that I didn’t even know that I had. I also found 4 ink pens, my color mixing journal and a bracelet, just so you know. I am furloughed again this week :))))
I got a lot of time on my hands ya’ll …………..
This beautiful chest of drawers belonged to the Grandmother of my friend and coworker Susan. Why in the world she didn’t want to keep it for herself? I will never know. But I am quite thankful that she thought of me when she decided to let it go.
The pulls ya’ll !!!
I knew when I saw it that I was about to put that can of deep blue paint to good use.
I just love the way those Hepplewhite pulls look with the Midnight Blue paint :). I do not get this lucky with original hardware very often. I have truly enjoyed every aspect of this refinish! The deep blue paint really suits the chest , in my opinion.
The little curves and the bottom and those little legs are a nice romantic detail for this big ‘ol chest.
It softens it nicely.
The paper is a navy and yellow pattern that I’ve had for a while and was dying to use. It just didn’t seem to fit with other pieces of furniture until this one came along.

All wrapping paper is 20% off currently!
The top is refinished with Minwax Dark Walnut and sealed with poly. There is not a lot of grain on this top but I do really like the contrast of the dark top with the navy. I feel like a natural top will out last a painted one, if it’s done correctly. The tops on furniture take such a beating, in this house anyway. I feel like three coats of poly is a staple.
Thoughts?
Looks like blue velvet ya’ll…..
This hardware was made for this color in my opinion . Hepplewhite pulls are just timeless, much like deep, dark blue paint. Classic, timeless…….
So.
We’ve had an incident here at Casa del Davis.
Anybody know how to get bird blood out of white upholstry?
Asking for a friend…….

The dresser is just lovely! And the cat—so regal, haughty and unashamed!

Allison thank you! And yes, Lily is all those things 🙂

You have got to stop making me laugh out loud !!! I love these dressers; not too high or wide, but hold so much storage! I agree; the navy is regal and appropriate for this piece. I couldn’t figure out why the two little drawers were on the top in the ‘incoming’ picture, but then were moved down in the final picture. Then I finally realized they are just detailed-out in the drawer itself! Miss Lily certainly has grown into quite a beauty ! And I get it! I am still sweeping feathers off the front porch from a recent little ‘incident’ at our house.

This is beautiful! I’ve always been drawn to the darker blues but have never used them in my decorating – I’m now trying to figure out where I can! I’m no help with the blood stain – good luck!

Thank you ! I will need it😳

Another beauty!
FYI from Today show
First, mix one tablespoon of dish detergent with two cups of cold water. Grab a clean white cloth, and start sponging the stain with the liquid cleaning solution. Continue to dab the stain with the solution until the stain disappears. Then, sponge again with cold water and blot dry.

The dark blue is perfect for this piece! And I totally agree with you that a stained top outlasts a painted one.

Hi Cynthia,
Tops of furniture take quite the beating in this house .
