This is another one that I am fairly certain has also sat in The Hell Hole for two years, more like over two years ………
This chest of drawers belonged to a dear dear friend of mine, Donna Smith. It was used in both of her children’s nurseries . It had also been painted about 15 times with what appears to be glossy oil based paint. Now I love Donna to pieces……..but I really wanted to wring her neck 10 minutes in to this project.
I had already stripped the drawer fronts over a year ago and they had languished out in the garage ever since, waiting for me to get my act together about the body of the piece. There is definitely a reason why I do NOT drag home already painted castoff furniture. All I can say is God bless whoever invented CITRISTRIP. If you have never used this stuff it is some kinda miracle. I just happened to be applying it to this dresser in the hot sun and after about an hour it the paint was falling off. I uses a metal scraper and got off as much as I could, which was the majority of it, Citrastrip stops working in 24 hours so I just waited for 24 hours after that and the chest was dry. Lastly I ran my orbital sander over the entire piece to get all the tiny bits that were left behind from my scrapping.
Here’s what I got for all that work…….
I seriously said, out loud when this chest was finished, ‘This is a Man Chest’. It is absolutely masculine in every way…….except for one.
This is also a Society6 paper.
Here’s a affiliated link to the paper, just click the image :
I have had a ton of questions about the paper I use to line the drawers in my furniture. Just to give you an idea of how far the paper will go, this chest has four deep drawers. Each order from Society6 has 5 sheets of paper in it. Each one of theses drawers needs a whole sheet of the paper to cover it with small scraps leftover after you trim the excess.
The classic black cup pulls are a staple in my stash, any finish cup pulls really. I find them quite reasonably priced and in packs of 6-8 on Amazon. The small black knobs were $2 each at Hobby Lobby during 50% off week. I went with simple and sleek hardware to not take away from the incredible grain the maple drawers have . The drawers and top are stained with Minwax Jacobean and sealed with Minwax poly in satin.
The body of the piece is painted in General Finishes Perfect Gray.
Love the combo of Jacobean & Gray ya’ll!
Thanks for stopping by to see me, it means a lot 🙂
