Hey ya’ll 🙂
I kinda took a break without even meaning to.
Going back to work has been super anxiety producing. I really didn’t count on that or even entertain the idea, to be quite frank. It is super hard to go from me & Big Daddy to gobs of people, most of whom are not pleasant or even compassionate toward others. I’m adjusting exceedingly slowly due to every other day is a new trauma from the public, traffic or folks who wanted to be on furlough but weren’t. It’s all a great big nervous ball of crap for most people I have discussed this with. It does make me feel better that other folks are feeling the same stuff I feel. A couple days after my furlough ended I got a text from a friend of mine that just said, ‘So how’s it being back to work?’ ……..Then the dam broke at 112 Kingsridge Lane…….
So today I have my crap together , due in large part to having a day off so lets talk Furniture & Paint for a while, shall we?
Good!
These are photos are of a sweet, sweet handmade dress that I picked up at Goodwill about a week ago. It is in great shape structurally and super clean, plus those darling little round feet! It had been stained dark at some point but no real finish to speak of. I sanded the entire piece down to just have a clean slate to work with and level out the nicks and dings. I have had a new can of paint in my paint cabinet that I’ve been dying to try so when I saw this dresser at the Goodwill , my first thought was that paint.
This is Foxtrot, from Wise Owl paint
It is a deep woodland green with a drop of two of blue. A few weeks back I painted that console table in green and it lit a fire in me. I don’t use greens near enough.
The paper is from Society6 . This one is actually the only paper I have used before. I really love all the colors in this one especially. Just click on the image below to be taken to this particular paper.
I really don’t use teardrop pulls very much at all, but when I found these I ordered them straight away. This is not a huge dresser. The pulls are sleek and elegant antique brass and I heart this combination.
These teardrop pulls are also super affordable at $8 for six!
The top is stained with a 50/50 ish mix of Minwax Jacobean and Classic Gray. Together they make a nice rich, warm finish without any orange or red, if that makes any sense. This paint color is deep and rich. I didn’t want anything competing with that.
Wise Owl makes a good chalk paint. It does paint differently than the other paints I use on a regular basis. It drags a bit when you put it on. I’m not sure if it does this because it is more chalky or it drys faster but after applying 2 coats on this piece I had it down pat. The bad part about Wise Owl ? The closest retailer is 45 minutes from my driveway. I do plan to make that drive again, I have 5 colors already picked out!
Thanks for stopping in to chat :))))

Love the piece and really LOVE the color. The drawer pulls and wood stained top really add a great pop. And the paper in the drawers was a perfect match. Another fabulous refinish job!!!

Lovely dresser. Love the hardware and the paper. I never thought about putting this kind of paper in drawers until I saw it in your pieces. Take care.

What a lovely color. Your choice of paper is perfect. Your experience and skill always shines through when restoring those old pieces. So sorry that you are anxious at work. But painting furniture is a great form of “creative avoidance.” I am trying to decide on a paint color for an old table. Why is choosing a paint color so hard?
monkeytails66@gmail.com says
Nancy Thank you! I think it’s harder because there are too may beautiful colors out there 🙂

My first thought… “handsome”! I love how you listen to the character of a piece and let THAT determine how you will proceed with painting and finishing it. And yes — I understand about not too red or orange! Love the pulls – quite the accessory for this very dignified little dresser.

Girl, I really try to. It is important to me to try hard to do them justice.
