Ya’ll I am very, very sorry to say that if I took a before of this piece I can not find it. My Dad has had this big mahogany hutch for as long as I can remember. It sat in his living room and it was full of framed family pictures. I have been in love with it for a very long time. One day last Fall he let me take it home with me and I was so excited I couldn’t stand it so I flew right in on it with a can of white paint……..and almost instantly the dark stained mahogany started to seep right through it. I was crushed ….. and crying a little. So as it was late in the year we moved the hutch in to The Hell Hole and there it has sat until this week. In keeping with the New World Order around here it just so happened that the hutch’s number was now up. Big Daddy had suggested that I chose a different color for the piece. A darker color. So first I pulled out every knob I had in my hoard. For a furniture painting nut , the hardest part of our current Stay Home situation is the fact that we can’t count on being able to just run out and pick up new & exciting knobs at the Hobby Lobby. As special as this piece is to me, the knobs, as well as the drawer paper had to be perfect.
Well , in my eyes anyway. Here’s what inspired me.
Fusion’s Midnight Blue paint, classic blue & white ticking and transferware knobs Ya’ll.
I heart every last one of these :)))))
Oh this navy paint !
It is such a classic and stately color. This hutch was just a tired old pice of furniture and not in the best shape. Lucky for it and me those thing do not bother me at all. I have had these knobs for a while now just sitting around waiting for the right piece of furniture. This hutch is definitely that piece.
Lord all those legs!
My favorite details on this one are the raised design on the side panels. I suspect that theses are not as they were originally. The hinges are not period appropriate. I’m thinking maybe there was once a glass door that probably broke along the way somewhere.
I used nearly almost all of this navy ticking paper on this one. I really love the look of it. I found the roll at TJ Maxx a few years ago. I would love to find another roll of it. The weight of it is perfect for lining drawers.
The Finlandia china is actually mine. The plate on your right is and antique plate. The tea cups, saucers and the plate on your left are newer, made by Churchill. All were thrifted over time. I fell in love with this pattern long ago. So far I have amassed a pretty good collection of it.
I hope my Dad likes it.

Love this piece and your choices for it – all classic, both color and patterns in floral and ticking stripes – it’s lovely. Like so many, I’m a huge fan of dark blue and white, it’s such a stylish combination, and I, too, have loved Finlandia china since I first had a much-needed cup of tea from that attractive service upon arrival early on a Sunday morning in 1997 at my charming Notting Hill hotel on a business trip. It was just my second trip to London, 30 years after my very first visit there as a pre-teen with my dad in 1966. I have a number of those cups and saucers now and they always take me back to that second trip, now 30 years ago. Enjoy your nice, newly blue hutch and the special family memories it holds for you.

Leslie thank you for the compliments and for sharing that story with me ! It means a lot. All of my Finlandia has been thrifted which is saying something because here in Western NC the pieces are few and far between.

That=s beautiful! I’m a huge fan of blue anyway, and the navy against the brighter blue on the china is perfect. Very upscale farmhouse vibes.
