Whenever I am searching for furniture online, especially FB Marketplace the very first thing I type in that search box is free. Now free is an English word that loosely translates to This crap will go fast ! So if you are not ready to get of your feet pajamas and haul butt to the giver’s house……..DO NOT search the word free.
Ya hear me???
This ad just said Free Table.
No measurements, no nothing. The person giving it away said she would leave it her driveway. In actuality I could have stayed in my feety pajamas because it was 3 minutes from my house. I was really surprised how not small, and not light this table was. It is solid as a rock and once I went over it with my bleach wipes it cleaned right up. After it dried completely and sat out in the sun for a few hours I sanded the top and the drawer face ( after I removed the wooden pull ) down to smooth bare wood and began to give the piece a new life.
White makes everything clean & new again.
This is actually a creamy white, Fusion’s Champlain. It’s my go to these days. It a clean neutrally elegant color. No yellow in this color at all, just a subtle hint of tan. Simple very often works miracles ya’ll!
Minwax Jacobean can also work a miracle or two. It sure brought out some gorgeous wood grain on the top.
Ya’ll…..
My drawer hardware hoard ain’t what it used to be. If the Stay At Home order goes on for another month you are gonna be able to tap dance in my hardware cabinet. Back last year when Hobby Lobby had a gob of knobs and pulls on clearance I grabbed up all of these chicken wire cup pulls. This table with it’s one little drawer needed something more than just one knob. And as long as I am going with that theme……..
I’ve been dying to use this paper ya’ll. I wanted it to go in the desk I did last week or so that I kept for myself, but that thing has a gob of drawers and I only had 2 sheets of this chicken paper, so the Free Table got it.
Looks pretty good with one of my black chairs 🙂
The cow print is an Etsy find. It is a digital file that you can download and print at home. The black and white print is of a Native American Blackfoot that I brought back home from my time there in Montana. I have several more that I really need to frame. He is so regal. The last frame was thrifted for a buck and I used a scrap of black card stock and some chalk to write the word home. I have walked by this little composition all day and I want to tell you how much I have not only enjoyed the table, but also the small gallery I put together. I also want ya’ll to know that all of your comments, private messages and texts about my current furlough meant the world to me. Thank ya’ll from the bottom of my heart!
And the state of North Carolina has come through :))))))
Big Daddy and I feel like this is what retirement will be like, minus the virus and the State………….
We love it!

What a charming table and the pull and chicken paper are perfection for it! No wonder the previous owner wanted it back…lol.
Having been down-sized from a full-time job to part-time 18 months ago, and ultimately my part-time job was eliminated entirely a year ago, I could see that coming and I was only 9 months away from official retirement, so I wasn’t devastated in the least. I actually was relieved and glad I could start my retirement activities sooner rather than waiting for 9 months. I had been counting down toward the *big* day when I could stop working for others after 40 years in the workforce so I was ready to get a head start. I viewed the last job during the previous seven years essentially as my pre-retirement job, since it wasn’t nearly as demanding or anywhere near as challenging (or rewarding or remunerative) as those that preceded it. I already had earned a modest pension and was ready to move on to doing the things I enjoy doing on my own (especially the creative stuff). I originally was an art major in college, but I knew I’d likely starve as an artist, so after spending some time in nonprofit arts management, a few years in retail at an art gallery, I shifted into advertising and PR, and eventually job in communications and marketing management in local and then state government, where I did more writing than making art. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but about 20 years ago I also wanted to get rid of some things I didn’t love or need to keep any longer, so I started selling some personal items on eBay. It was (and still is fun) and remunerative. Having inherited household items from several elderly family members in the years since, I have continued to sell vintage and other decorative housewares on eBay for fun, along with vintage items on Etsy for the past year. Now that I’m no longer tied to working for others, I get to spend more time seeking out things I like that I think would appeal to others and be saleable, be creative about marketing them, and earn a little extra cash in the process. If this past year has been what retirement looks like in my world, it was and is exactly as I’d hoped it would be and I’m loving it. Your renovating the larger pieces that you’ve done is so inspiring to me, and I have a couple of pieces that I want to tackle when it gets a little warmer here. I probably won’t do a booth space for them at this point (most of which aren’t operating right now anyway), but I will consider offering them on FB Marketplace when the time comes. I think it’s obvious you’ve already got your post-work-world retirement game well established and will be more than ready to continue it without a full-time outside job constraint when that time comes. I think you’ll love it!

Leslie! You are embarking on one heck of an adventure! Please keep me updated on all this and I’d like to know which Etsy shop is yours please❤️

So far, “retirement” has been fun with no regrets about not having a “job”. I’ve got plenty to do to stay busy and productive, so it’s all good. I sent you a PM on FB with more info.

Love the table. Unusual for you to work on something without fancy legs. Can you tell me the color of your walls in the picture? I love your posts!

This turned out so great! I love what paint and stain can do for an ugly piece. And free is such a lovely word isn’t it 😉
