Anymore, I regularly drive in to South Carolina to pick up pieces of furniture. The second hand / thrift store furniture market here in Asheville has just become a world class kinda crazy, especially on Marketplace. Everybody out there thinks they have the Lindbergh Baby. The first time I actually drove down to Greenville, SC specifically to pick up a piece that was an exceptional deal. I bought it from a really nice young couple who were selling several things in preparation for a move. On my way home I remember thinking to myself, ‘Well, that was pretty easy :))))’
I brought this piece home with no intention of selling it. I fell in love with it the second I spotted it on Marketplace. This could make a nice desk for Me. It has been sitting out in The Hell Hole ever since. Just so happens ? It’s number was up in the *****do not bring any more junk furniture home till you work through every stick of it out in that garage***** edict.
And two years later …….
I really took my time with this desk.
I knew I wanted to put it in our living room, a natural top and a creamy white. At the last minute I decided to not paint these beautifully turned legs. I sanded them down by hand very carefully and it took a while to do that with a pretty coarse sanding sponge and then sealed them with a soft furniture wax. It was totally worth the hand cramps ya’ll!
It took me three days to decide on the hardware. Most of that three days was spent crosslegged in the middle of the kitchen floor riffling through ALL of the knobs and pulls I have hoarded for almost 7 years. As we are sheltering in place I had to use what I had on hand. In the end I went with all antique hardware that I think speaks to the style of the desk. Even Big Daddy says it was the correct choice!
The top was in excellent shape. I sanded it down and restrained it with Minwax Jacobean stain in an effort to tone down the red tones and it worked wonders!
For the drawers I went with a black and white geometric paper from Society6.
Ya’ll.
I am obsessed with these papers.
I mean straight up nuts, N.U.T. S ! I have spent two hours at a time just going through page after page of paper designs. I can not wait to choose the next pieces’s drawer liner paper! I’m never buying a piece of furniture without a drawer again for the rest of my natural life ya’ll………. it’s just that fun!

The botanical prints I found at Goodwill for $3 each. They were in a set of six framed prints but two were in really bad shape so I walked away with 4. I was whirling around the house this afternoon looking for objects to style this desk with. Having no luck I stepped out in to The Hell Hole and there they were. They are a bit beat up but still lovely.
One more!
Happy Easter ya’ll !

That’s just beautiful! I enjoy seeing your lovely living room. Isn’t it interesting how sheltering at home has us doing projects we’ve put off for so long? 🙂
