OK ya’ll, this post could also be called, ‘ Think twice before you buy a piece of furniture this glossy for the rest of your life girl!!!!!!’
And here’s the reason why:
So back in February (before the crap hit the fan) I took a day trip to SC and shopped for art for our dining room. Me being me, I also hit a gob of thrift stores . This solid as a rock coffee table came home with me in the back of my Jeep. It has been sitting in The Hell Hole ever since.
Not anymore though.
The curves on the apron of this piece are so cool ya’ll! It really gives what might have been a nondescript table some really nice style, way more than the average Queen Ann , straight across apron edge.
There is a smaller version of that detail on the end panels also.
I used Fusion’s Champlain on this piece. The above photo really illustrates the cream color of Champlain vs. the white of my sofa. It is such a soft understated color. The top is a totally different story………
If any of ya’ll know what kind of wood this is please let me know?
Maybe cherry??
What ever it is it refinished beautifully!
I really had no clue that it was this nice underneath all that glossy poly. I used Minwax Jacobean stain for this top and I love the combination of the stain and the Champlain. They offset each other nicely.
It took me what felt like 6 years to sand that old finish off the top but I am here to tell ya’ll it was sooooo worth it to get to what it looks like now. That being said, it will be a long time before I drag a piece of furniture that glossy home with me again !
Paige 🙂

You’ve done it again! You always do the most amazing work. You have a gift.
Will you share your art you picked up?
And, is your sofa slipcovered?
My sofa is in good shape & so comfy but my grands have made a few marks ( while Pops was “watching them”) on it. I’d love to have slipcovered.
Hope you & Big Daddy stay well.

Beverly its always nice to hear from you! I truly appreciate your kind words. I shared the art earlier in the dining room refresh post. Yes my couch is a slipcovered one from Ikea, and we LOVE it! It is so easy to just throw it in the washer and it’s brand new again. Hope you are safe and well . xoxo

I know, that glossy stain must have been super popular atone time. It probably meant it was more expensive. Great job reusing and restoring the table to fit your own home. Thank you for sharing at Tuesday Turn About Link Party.

Thank you so much Carol! I am pretty sure that understated version is always better, at least in this house.
