Last week while I was licking my wounds over my most recent FB Marketplace loss I came upon this:
Theses before photos were I the ad on Marketplace.
Now let me first say that I have a big ol’ soft spot in my heart for these old handmade pieces. Some time long ago someone I will never know took the time to build this table from simple materials and it held a place of honor in that person’s home. And judging from all the cut marks in the top of this table…….
it was in the kitchen. It makes me sad when people just cast these old pieces aside for a table from Target or whatever rather that apply some care and elbow grease to have a unique one of a kind handmade antique.
When I drag my next blank canvas (new piece of furniture) home I open the doors to my paint cabinet and just take in all those beautiful colors. I usually pick a bright and happy color. This time I wanted to select a classic and somewhat humble color, a color that would not compete with the newly refinished top, something timeless.
Bayberry from Fusion Mineral paint fit that bill. To me these days more than ever green is an accent color in my home, olive green in particular.
I am really happy with the way the top refinished! I did leave some of the imperfections though. I think it’s important to keep a bit of the history of this piece. I wish I new more of it myself.
The light was so perfect the day I shot these photos. They really show the Bayberry in a true light. It is a lovely green! I chose simple glass knob that I had in my hard. I felt like simple was the way to go on the jewelry. The style of these glass knob is probably close to the period of this table.
This table would make a great entry piece, place to toss you keys or the mail. Where ever it ends up I hope it’s in a room where it can be appreciated. Something that has stood the test of time deserves that.
I am linking all the products that I used in this piece at the bottom of this post. These are affiliated links which means that we make a small commission from your purchase while your cost stays the same.
. . . .
Have a great week!

You’ve given this little table honor and dignity, and as you say, hopefully another cycle of life to be used and loved. I think I just realized that you approach all your furniture projects with respect and appreciation. It’s probably why I am in such awe of the beauty you create with them !!
