Ya’ll I have been furloughed for 4 days and my house looks like somebody’s storage unit.
I am crapin’ ya’ll negative.
I think I told ya’ll earlier that Big Daddy is forcing me to work through every stick of furniture in our garage before I actually buy one. Well……thanks to COVID19 he is getting his wish. Why is it that a garage full of castoff furniture is never, never as exciting as a new piece of castoff furniture …….from a sweet friend?
I got this photo in a text from my friend Joni who is also a vender at Sweeten Creek Antiques. The text said and I quote, ‘Would you like to have this? It’s free.’
Well hell yes Joni I certainly would:))))
So I hid it in my Jeep for several, several days.
So much For Big Daddy and his proclamations…………
So we deconstructed this vintage sewing table in to a pair of Bedsides. The cool thing about this piece is that there was a rectangular hole about the size of a sewing machine smack in the middle of the mahogany top. As I am not working currently and my shop is not necessary so it’s closed this whole project had to be free. I mean no money.
Period.
So I dragged that original top across the street and asked Mark Bates (at a safe distance) could he please cut me two small tops. And that is exactly what he did. You will notice that the front and one side has a beveled edge . The edge Mark cut for me does not. When Mark brought the two new tops back over I thought I could just use my sander to just take the edge of the cut side down. And I was about to actually do it when I noticed it was the thinest of veneers. I was a little bummed till Big Daddy pointed out they night tuck in beside a bed better that way, it could butt right up to the wall in a close space.
I don’t know if y’all have ever noticed but I have never refinished a piece of furniture that sits completely flat on the ground. I just don’t like it. So this is a first for me. I always get really excited when the original hardware is cool . Plus I love me some bail pulls ya’ll! I soaked the hardware in brass cleaner……..and got nothing. No shine, nothing. So they are clean as a whistle……but they don’t shine. I think they are perfect.
Back to everything had to be free?
I had several jars of paint that just had dabs left in them so I mixed Bayberry, Homestead Blue and Lichen together to get this turquoise color. It is actually darker and more rich in person.
I hope ya’ll have a great week ahead !
Stay safe,
Paige
