A couple weekends ago on a gorgeous sunny Saturday morning I drove halfway to Charlotte in hopes of coming home with a Federal style china cabinet.
In other words?
A perfect Paige Day!
Big Daddy was less than happy ya’ll.
These legs alone worth that drive plus the Hepplewhite pulls!
I did all the right stuff on this one…
good price
in good shape
passed the sniff test………
Two days later you could not stand to be in the same room with this thing. Big Daddy was having a duck fit and I really wanted to cry my eyes out……..
So I did exactly what everybody in the world does.
I drowned my sorrows in a hot tub of water, drank a beer and crawled under the covers in my bed.
Then I started Googling …….
Little Monkey Man.
Ya’ll, I put vodka in a spray bottle and Went. To. Town on this thing!
Yes it’s a thing and it is borderline miraculous!
To paint the mullions I had to gently pry the little skinny trim pieces that held them (and the actual glass !) loose with a butter knife. I was so nervous that a cat would jump up wreck everything but all week well Thank God!
For the inside of the china cabinet I lined each tier with black and white ticking fabric that I found at Hobby Lobby for $6 a yard.
I’m super happy with how well the fabric turned out and love how the stripe sets off the wood as well as the items that I chose to put inside the cabinet. I’m just imagining it full of all white dishes :))))
The original Hepplewhite pulls were a big bonus on this one. I did soak them in a brass cleaner to make the brighter. The small knobs that came with piece I felt were a bit undersized. I had saved the knobs from the two toned dresser in my last post and they are perfect on this one!
I love using this Krylon Chalkboard paint because it covers really good and it’s perfectly matte finish. It is not for everybody though. To me flat, matte black is off the hook elegant, in a sleek quite way. Every room needs a bit of matte black ya’ll 🙂
Hope ya’ll are cozy and warm wherever ya’ll are!

Paige! You are a miracle worker and a visionary. Bringing these pieces back to life- making them better than they were- it’s a gift. You are also hilarious, which I am sure helps. 😊

I have used Vodka to freshen old furniture too! Works great on upholstered pieces with that musty off-gas smell also. I am long an admirer of Federal style. Beautiful piece.
