Y’all, I gotta learn to ask questions first and then shoot.
I saw the price on this antique dresser, sniffed a single drawer and immediately pulled the tag off and paid for it. I didn’t see all of the mess all around the bottom until the nice Habitat Restore guys were sliding it in to my Jeep.
I really lucked out on this dresser.
The bottom of it was a train wreck but the drawers were worth it. I painted the body and legs in Krylon chalkboard paint. It is a perfect matte black that I really like. The drawers I carefully sanded using my orbital and 120 grit paper. I forced myself to really watch it, going slow and steady so as not to chip or sand through the veneer.
The stain is a 50/50 mix of minx Jacobean and Weathered Oak. I had just enough in the can to finish this piece then the next day I sealed then with Minwax poly in satin. I love the grain on these drawers
This one is not perfect at all but it still has quite a bit of life left in it.
All hardware is from Hobby Lobby.
The antique brass and glass drop pulls were the first ones I chose. Then I stood on the knob aisle what felt like 6 years deciding on the rest.
Y’all…….pray for me.
I am currently working on The China Cabinet from Hell and what little bit of patience I have is wearing pretty thin.
On second thought?
Maybe y’all should pray for the china cabinet………

Amazing transformation Paige! It doesn’t even look like the same dresser! I would have completely destroyed it…I ALWAYS sand right through the veneer and ruin the whole piece! So glad this piece found you! Anyone else would have just painted the entire thing and called it good…only you can bring back the beautiful wood wherever it can be saved!

Thank you Leah! It is incredibly EASY to get in the zone with that sander and go right through it!
