Last Sunday morning I ran in to this on FB Marketplace……
I have begun to have quite the soft spot for French Provincial pieces. Those sweet little legs get me every time. I even have a couple of pieces in my own home. So when I run across one for $20?
I am all in.
I painted this French Cabinet in a creamy color, Fusion Mineral Paint’s Champlain. It is just the prettiest cream! I have gone through two containers of the stuff so far.
I left the original hardware on . I painted them and then wiped them down with a paper towel so that the original finish would show through a bit. Their intricate details are more noticeable than before.
My thrift store one eared, tailless horse looks good on it. Underneath the base his feet are on there are two holes for bolts. I would really like to know what he came off of.
The curves around the tops edge are a hallmark of the style. I waffle on whether to paint or stain them. so far I don’t prefer one over the other. I do love those curvy edges ya’ll!
Sooooooo.
This is actually a record cabinet.
I have another idea.
Great wine cabinet ………

What a charming cabinet, and I think the horse probably had a marble base (or something similar) at some point, with screws to attach to the base of the horse. I have a similar small dark bronze horse sculpture with a lovely black marble base streaked with white – very dramatic – and the underside of the marble appears to have two circular areas that were drilled out where screws were inserted to affix the horse to the marble base. The marble also has that classic fuzzy green faux velvet fabric adhered to it to cover the screw holes and protect furniture surfaces wherever it’s placed for display.

Paige – I’m always happy to help. I also did a little research online and if you Google “small horse sculpture marble base”, you can see some examples there along with sources for bases if you decide you want one for your horse. You might have to attach it yourself, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to do. 🙂

Thank you Anita! I have found that a natural top just wares better.

I have a similar record cabinet in my upcycle stash, but wasn’t sure what to do with it? A wine cabinet is perfect! Great idea! Thanks for the inspiration!
