Ya’ll I have had an antique vanity out in The Hell Hole for about 6 months. Well first it sat on my front porch for a while……. ok weeks. It sat on the porch for weeks. The week before Thanksgiving I was asked to put it away…….. actually Big Daddy demanded that I uncrap up the entry to our home before our entire family comes over to eat. It is hard to do what I do and find any kind of balance in it let alone the rest of your life. My home gets neglected. I go to work with paint on my scrubs, we run out of cat food and have to open a can of tuna. You get the idea. I have a very understanding husband but I push the envelope a lot. The difficult part is there’s really no way to half ass this. You are either all in or all out and if you are all in ? You probably live in some form of squaller.
Just sayin’
So we finally cut up that antique vanity ya’ll :))))))
This is how it started out: cracked , warped top, broken drawer and really beat up.
It took three coats of Fusion Mineral Paint’s Casement to doll these up. Fusion is a self priming, self leveling paint. Most decorative paints are. Those two characteristics can cover up and fill in a multitude of sins and blemishes.
The little feet on these bedsides are so cool!
For the tops I have been using pine boards from Lowes. They are actually finish grade shelf boards. The size that works the best is $13 and it is the perfect size for two tops. The nice guys at the Lowes do the cutting for me based on my measurements. The chop saw will leave the cut edge a little rough so I sand the edges smooth before I stained them.
These make perfect bedsides for the person who love to live with beautiful antiques but in a more modern way. I love the fact that they are taller than a lot of standard bedside tables…… and curvier!
Are there any of ya’ll out there who are obsessed with these green pottery pieces that I am pretty sure come from Florists? Anybody or just me? Anyone?
Bueller????
See what I mean?
I grab these for my shop every time I find one.
So.
About Lilly…….
This cat is the crazy.
we move a LOT of furniture around here. Lily has learned to ride the furniture that we are moving. She will jump in a drawer of on top of whatever we are carrying from room to room. She will actually sit and wait while I’m painting .
So the prettiest girl in the world is also the smartest!

These puppies WERE very beat up -seriously! But I have never seen that kind of decorative detail on a drawer – so unusual! And, as usual, beautiful job, and thank you for info and description of the Fusion Mineral paint. Those pictures of Lily… oh my goodness! Clearly, she is The Perfect Cat for you. I was laughing so hard reading your post that I startled my Lucy who was sitting on my lap!

I never would have thought to cut a vanity in half. Your two pieces turned out amazing! Lily is beautiful and she’s quite the poser. We have a 20 lb. inside cat and our feral cat, Jelly Bean, lives on our deck.
