A Few days after I got over The GI Bug From Hell I saw an ad on Marketplace that I could. Not. Lay. Off. Of. It was an ad for an entire 1920’s Bedroom set. Now , 1920’s is my jam ya’ll. When I was a little, little girl (brat, ask anybody who is actually related to me) my aunt Wanda’s bedroom was FULL of it. Right there is where it all started for me. My Mama was a big antiques collector so was raised around lots of (mostly oak) antiques so I had a healthy respect for things that had stood the test time. So all these years later I still go nuts when I see 1920’s mahogany furniture with curvy legs. I took a chance and asked the seller if she might be at all interested in selling the chest of drawers ……..separately? Maybe???
That people was a big, FAT yes:)))))
My Lord I love it when a piece of furniture comes with amazing original hardware . I did trade the small versions of the pulls on the two top small drawers for some jewelry.
I have used these knobs before. They came from Hobby Lobby for $7 each. They are like a pair of gorgeous dangly earrings for this piece. By some stoke of luck it happened to be 50% off week on the knob aisle so I was still under budget.
All four casters are perfect and I just love those legs!
I painted this one in Fusion’s Champlain. It took three coats to get good coverage on this very dark mahogany.
Here are a couple of before photos. It was not in perfect condition. There were a few dings and veneer chips but a good furniture paint can fix a multitude of sins ya’ll. Big Daddy got me a new phone for Christmas and some how I managed to loose a few of my gazillion photos on my old phone.
Still in my Christmas feety pajamas ya’ll ……
The top was in excellent shape. I did sand off what was left of the original finish and re stained it with Minwax Jacobean. By the way? I only use one coat of stain and I apply it with a lint free cloth. I let it dry a couple of hours and then wipe it with a paper towel. If there is more than a trace of the stain on the paper towel I let it dry for a couple more hours before I apply the first of 3 coats of Minwax poly, also with a lint free cloth.
One More……
This pretty thing will be down at the shop by Saturday if you are local!
