I am writing this in our living room under the glow of our Christmas tree.
It’s cold and rainy outside (with possible snow on Monday!!!) and the house is warm and smells divine as I have pine scented candles burning. Our Thanksgiving was just the way we like it: House full of loud, crazy family and wwwaaayyy too much good food to eat. I sincerely wish the exact same thing for all of ya’ll because in my opinion life doesn’t get any better than that. I miss my Mama the most at the Holidays. As I was putting the finishing touches on both dining tables I could not help but think of her, how she loved a beautifully set table. Having my aunts & uncles and my Dad with me on this special day is a gift I hope to receive for years to come.
Today’s Victim
My friend and coworker Ashlee texted me these photos of her daughter’s play / coloring desk that they had outgrown. Her eldest daughter Brandelyn is 16 and little Tinley is 6.
As soon as I got the photo of the top, knew it was solid wood I was all in.
I must admit that I have avoided these sort of desks, Halfers I call them. They always looked like a piece of furniture with an identity crisis. I only made an exception because I love both girls to death and wanted to try to do this piece justice. I have had the pleasure of watching both girls grow up and I thought a lot about that as I worked on this one
I really hope I have.
The biggest surprise with this Halfer was the top.
After I sanded down what little was left of the original finish I would never have dreamed that it would turn out this beautiful! I think often times a darker stain yields more depth and detail in the grain of that wood. I could not be happier with this gorgeous top ya’ll!
The body is painted in 2 coats of Fusion Mineral Paint’s Bayberry. I didn’t want the drawer hardware to compete in the least with the green so I chose matte black cup pulls. They were an Amazon find and quite affordable. I will put an affiliated link to them at the bottom of this post for shopping conscience if anyone is interested. Affiliated links mean that we make a small commission on your purchase but your cost remains the same.
In my last post I talked about this really nice faux evergreen wreath I found at Walmart for $12.97. I feel like I might as well go grab another one because I have had it all over the house and it looks perfect!
The mercury glass tree was a $4 Goodwill find last Summer. I love mercury glass and have meant to start a small collection of these so now’s my chance. I found another at Michaels last week that is a few inches smaller for $10. Now all I need is a small one.
They are just so elegant .
As we did last year we are not using red in the Christmas touches throughout our main living area. I have chosen mostly metallic, wood tones and an olive green.
In other words?
Everything you see in these photos.
I will be sharing more of our Christmas decor this next week.
Thank ya’ll for stopping in to see me!
