On Friday I was out and about early on one of my crazy missions. I was hitting as many thrift stores as possible in search of smaller pieces of furniture to refinish for my shop. I found nothing……. It was like the entire county had some kind of purge of secondhand furniture. WTH????? As a last ditch effort I swung in to a Salvation Army Family Store and as I cracked open the front door I just knew I was in luck……they were playing Christmas music!
I found the Vintage Broyhill French Provencal chest of drawers!
Interestingly, It was also a bow front like the white one I wrote about last week. The similarities do not end there. The new piece had great hardware also.
The chest was in really good shape as apposed to most of the pieces I drag home. It was clean, in good repair and did not smell bad at all. I spent a little more than usual on it though but it was well worth it.
I painted this one in General Finishes Empire Gray chalk style paint. Empire gray is a light putty gray, very neutral & very calming. I love the way it looks against those antique brass pulls ya’ll .
I really like the not over exaggerated French legs. They are just the right kinda curvy.
For the top I used Minwax Jacobean stain. Once I sanded the old finish off I noticed the wood looked quite red. Jacobean can really tone the red way down in raw wood.
I mean no offense but I have to tell you that the difference in paints has made itself known. The last few pieces I have done I’ve used Fusion paint. I used General Finishes chalk style paint on today’s piece. Either I am getting old and tired……..or Fusion is just easier to work with.
Over the weekend I did pick up another color in the Fusion line :)))))
I am currently mulling over it’s options .
