If you have been reading this blog for very long you have probably noticed that I have a soft spot for antique desks. They are soooooo versatile: desk, vanity, entry piece, buffet. That’s a lot of titles for just one piece of furniture. So when I find one in good repair and affordable?
I grab it!
The curves will suck me in every time.
The other bonus on this one was the antique desk had all it’s original hardware:)))
Ya’ll.
I know it’s early but I am so excited about the upcoming holidays I can no stand it!
Now you see why I went nuts over this one. I could absolutely see the potential in it. The original Hepplewhite hardware really makes the piece, in my opinion. I found the desk in a Goodwill in Asheville for $30. Well, I need to back up. I walked in the front door and saw it, thought it look pretty good and then went on about my trek through the entire store. In the back of my brain I was thinking (get this!!!) that I should probably look for smaller pieces that I could turn over easily and walked out the door! I didn’t think a thing in the world about it until I cranked the engine of my Jeep!
Lord!
All the way home I had Fusion’s Bayberry in my head. I didn’t even entertain another color. As I was editing these photos I really believe it would have been a shame to have painted the desk in any other color.
I dug out a bunch of my tin houses from the garage and a couple of my favorite ornaments for the photos. The houses don’t exactly scream Christmas, it’s sorta subtle and I love them. I get a lot of questions about where I got them. The easy answer is all over. The big one in the middle I got a Walmart last year and they have them again this Season. The two on either end (I actually have a third one) were the first ones I acquired and they were from Kmart, God rest it’s soul.
The two smallest housed came from Michaels & Walmart. OH!!! I am on the hunt for a tin church! If anyone happens to see one I love to know where !
The top I stained with straight Minwax Jacobean in an attempt to tone down the red in the wood. So far that particular stain color does the best in that department.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂
