For some crazy reason I walked right by this one for something like 3 weeks.
This is a solid maple sewing table and it is heavy as lead ya’ll.
The sewing machine had long since removed. I can only imagine the weight that the machine would have added! The reason for the 3 week lag? I just could not get past the gap between each side of the top. Each side of the top folds out to extend the work surface. On the plus side it had nice legs and spotless drawers that appeared to have never been used. I dragged the thing home and began to clean it up, paint it up and dig through my hardware hoard to dress it up. Big Daddy put a couple of screws in from underneath to hold the top closed so it can be used as a solid surface.
Here’s how it turned out ya’ll 🙂
Ya’ll.
I am nuts about this one! It will make someone a lovely desk, sofa table or maybe an entry hall piece.
The cup pulls were already in my stash but the small matte black knobs were from Hobby Lobby for 2 bucks each. The finish on both is a matte black. I really love the combo of black, white and wood ya’ll. When in doubt it is a classic and safe decor bet.
I painted the body of this piece in two coats of Fusion mineral paint’s Champlain. It’s a beautiful creamy off white. It has made it’s way to the font my paint cabinet where the heavy rotation colors live 🙂
Good Lord the top!
I would have never thought in a million years that the top on this one would look like this. I had just a bit of that Minwax Jacobean / Classic Gray mix to finish this top. You know what they say about hindsight ? Well it would have been a shame to have used any other stain on this sewing table.
I apologize for the 700 pictures but the light was great outside.
No photographic struggles today thank God !
Happy Saturday ya’ll and thanks for dropping by to see me !
