Recently I wrote about the need to refinish small pieces of furniture to give my joints a break. The smaller pieces like side tables are usually pretty easy to find but I will admit that I am kinda picky about the style of the side tables I want to paint.
Case in point:
LORD these things……..I avoid the like the plague.
FYI? That there on the shelf part is gum. I sanded it off with my orbital……then I thought about burning the orbital.
It’s the hole ya’ll. That BIG dark hole on the bottom of an otherwise nice table drives me up a wall. I can not begin to tell you how many of these I have walked right by not matter if somebody was giving them away.
Now? I am kicking my own butt.
I spent $8 on this beat up thing because I was desperate. In the conversation in my crazy little head I thought I would do this one time, get through my panic over a junk furniture drought and quietly move on. I had already painted the piece in Dixie Belle Hurricane and refinished the maple top with Minwax Special Walnut but the hole, albeit less noticeable was still bugging me to death. Thanks to this thrift store basket for a buck I will not be so picky in the future!
Plus I love the contrast and texture it lends.
Big Daddy also gave the basket his seal of approval!
This thing is made out of maple, rock maple and weighs a ton for its size. After I scrubbed all the crap off it I could see that there were no dings or gouges in it. The finish on the top was shot but sanded, stained and polyed up beautifully !
Years ago, I used to have to drive to Greenville, SC to loose my mind in a Hobby Lobby. And I would do it quite often even though it was about an hour and 20 minutes from my house . The knobs I put on this piece I have had for years. The still had the $.99 clearance sticker on them.
I am a special kinda nuts ya’ll :0)
Now I am keeping an eye out for a pair of them :)))))
If I don’t tell ya’ll often enough I thank ya’ll so much for dropping by to see me, read my blog and your comments here and on social media mean a lot to me.

It’s a lovely piece, Paige! You did a great job refinishing it, too. I have always loved baskets to replace missing drawers and empty spaces. That one is really nice. Too bad you passed up so many others. Bet you don’t do it again! grace

As always, lovely job on this side table. The basket is perfect for it and that knob is the bomb! I have a growing pile of pieces I plan to tackle and you’re my greatest inspiration to just get going on them!

Thank you Leslie! Don’t do like me and start 4 at once. It never end well 🙈

It looks beautiful! The paint color choice, wood stain, basket and knobs all work in harmony together. Pieces like these will probably become your favorites.
