This happens every time.
The second I comb through Facebook Market place and can’t find anything, I panic. Fact. Now let me define anything. In short? Any good junk, anything I can afford, anything that doesn’t have a laminate top, anything from a nonsmoking environment, anything less than 1 hour from my house (and my feet pajamas) anything that doesn’t stink, anything that is not missing an entire leg………
Get the picture?
It is super frustrating to me and I begin to catastrophize. About two weeks ago things looked bleak, to me anyway. I was sitting in a conference room waiting for a meeting to start when in my hot little hand I saw this…….
Ya’ll this thing was in South Carolina.
As soon as I clocked out at work I headed straight for the state line. The very nice couple that it belonged to were living near Lake Bowen. They loaded it in to my Jeep for me and I headed home. Easy Peasy. The entire time I was driving I was mulling over grays on my mind, no other colors at all.
So gray it was.
I have to say this oak buffet is one of the more unique pieces I have ever refinished and I am really glad I was able to find it!
It reminds me of a deer, all long thin legs. The details are amazing!
This is another case where I needed to sand the entire piece because of a gloss glossy finish and it was well worth the time I spent. I really like a darker top so for this one I went with Minwax Jacobean and I am just crazy over how it plays with the tiger oak top :))))
I am just about down to my last one of these knobs. When I had to order 12 just to get one I was aggravated. They are a smaller and a acrylic instead of my usual ceramic but they have come in quite hand for these antique and handmade pieces with lighter weight drawers. Now I was just looking to re order them and they are out of stock. I will include a link at the bottom of this post incase anyone has questions about them. It will be an affiliated link which means we make a small commission from your purchase but you cost stays the same.
The curves always get me.
This one has lots of them 🙂
Oak was my Mama’s favorite of all the woods. Her home was a study in it. I think I am just now truly beginning to fully appreciate it’s beauty and uniqueness. The grain is unmistakable. I went with General Finishes Empire Gray on this one (two Coates, no touchups needed ) and the only thing I distressed was the escutcheon plate around the keyhole. I am pretty sure they were aftermarket but I love the look of them! I just wanted to brig out a bit of the brass underneath.
Lily the monkey……….
Happy Weekend ya’ll !

I always learn so much from you. I have never even HEARD of the word escutcheon…..!! Ever! So of course I looked it up right away – and now I know – thanks to you! A beautiful piece, as always. The legs, the shape, and that little design element in the center. I laughed out loud at the picture of Lily…. everything must be inspected!!

Just lovely, Paige… what color did you use to stain the wood? I’m guessing the Empire Gray was the paint you used on the body of the piece? So glad to get to see this at Tuesday Turn About!
