Bid Daddy is really getting to be quite The Man when it comes to deconstructing old vanities. If memory serves this is #3 for us. This particular vanity I found on Facebook Marketplace. The very nice lady I bought it from was using it as a deck for her little girl and it was in really great shape. So I took a few photos in process to show that it is not as hard as it looks. The very first thing you do is take all the drawers out of the vanity to lighten the load. We sat up a pair of sawhorses, flipped the vanity over on it’s top and and sat it top down on them.
Next we took out every screw that was holding the top to each side of the base.
Once they were all out Big Daddy disconnected the top by prying the top up with a screwdriver. At this point all that was holding that top on was a bit of wood glue so the job was easy.
at this point he needed to remove the wooden bracing the spans the distance the two sets of drawers.
A few well placed taps with the hammer and the drawers were free.
The key to the deconstruction is slow and steady wins this race.
They are crazy things……
I painted each one in General Finishes Bone White chalk paint. I have a quart of the stuff hoarded since GF announced they were discontinuing their chalk paint line this past Spring :(((((
We need a moment of silence for that one…..
Now if you have mad woodworking skills cut up that top you just unscrewed and make your own tops. The Davises did good to get all the wood screws out so I drove over to Lowes and bought a finish grade pine shelf board and had the nice man at the wood cutting area chop it to size for me. The board did have a few splinters so when I got back home I ran my sander over the edges till they were nice and smooth.
The tops were stained using Minwax Jacobean and I am always so happy with the way that stain looks on pine. I allowed the stain to dry over 24 hours then sealed them both with Minwax poly in satin. That Minwax is good stuff ya’ll.
The knobs were another $2 Hobby Lobby find. I am pretty sure that I have used these particular ones on 5 different projects. I love them and I also love that they are not small. The cup pulls are matte black from Amazon. They were a snap to put on and the screws provided were the perfect length. I will include a link to them at the end of this post.
Just give me all the old tattered green books please.
Thank for stopping in to see me !
