The biggest reason I have never spent gobs of $$$ on home decor is we didn’t have gobs of $$$ to spend on home decor in the first place. And I could not be happier about that. I married Big Daddy when we were 23 years old. My tastes now are not even in the solar system . So today I have 5 examples of what I think are really classic and stylish pieces that work well in any home na do not cost a fortune.
#1
A classic side table
I found this solid oak side table at The Salvation Army Family Store for eight bucks. There ain’t a thing wrong with it except all that wood and early American hardware make it look second hand. I sanded down that top and restained it in a more current shade.
My rule of thumb for picking a paint color? When in doubt go black or white. I used the most perfect black on the market , General Finishes Lamp Black. It is a soft, matte black and goes with everything.
I used Minwax Dark Walnut for the oak top. It is dark but warm without any red or orange tones, again classic.

A lamp for that table
I found the lamp at my Goodwill for $5 and this is the original finish.
I’ve had this burlap and gray shade for a while and I’m fairly certain that I got it at Walmart for maybe $7. Both are classy and neutral enough to move effortlessly around you home.
#3 An armchair
These are the workhorses of any room in the house. I got this off the internet last Fall, believe it of not and have not had one bad thing to say about it yet except it now comes in a black striped on also. I will leave links at the bottom of this post to both of them. If I got sick of it in our living room tomorrow it could also slip seamlessly in to any other space I our home.
Crazy and beautiful Tiger Lily
#4 & #5
A lumbar pillow and an entry rug, $8 each
Lily is laying on a nice, neutral and most importantly a substantial lumbar throw pillow I actually found at Dollar General and there is not a soul in this world that is more shocked that I am. It is fiber filled but looks and feels great!
Lily’s little fat butt is laying on a gorgeous gray woven rug that I found at the same store. It is the perfect size for the small entry way in our home. Honest to God ? I wish I had gotten two!
I’m gonna have to go back to that store…..

Only 5 ? You could write a week of posts about this subject! That’s why I love your home/blog….it’s a real and genuine, decorated with care and attention to detail, and staying true to what speaks to you. You make it look easy, and I know for a fact that it’s not. Of course, that pretty little Lily face is just icing on the cake!
Lord Kristine whatever Mama is doing Lily is RIGHT there!
Great post! I love budget friendly home decor. I wish I would have seen that chair on Amazon when I was in the market for a new chair. Your cat is so cute!
Thanks Amy! It’s a great chair.
I love what you did with that side table. The whole look is very elegant, timeless, and sweet. I think it’s more fun to work with a small budget and see what you can do, and your post is a great example of that. And Tiger Lily is just adorable! You designed that space for her, didn’t you? I’m sure that is what she thinks.
Thank you Heidi! Yes! The cats run this house❤️
