Our entire home is really quite neutral, gray, white, brown and black. I truly love these light, soothing colors. But now and again I want to add a bit of an accent color. My theory about working in an accent color to a neutral living space is pretty simple. The neutral vibe in our home is pretty important to me. After all of the color pallets we have used over the last 30 years this neutral one has worked the best for us. My personal choice for an accent color is either blue or green. Both colors can almost always be worked in to any space if you pay attention to their hue. If y’all recall last December I chose to go neutral with my Christmas decorating and only used a small amount of red in my kitchen / breakfast area. I used greens and metallics everywhere else. I loved it, except I was never happy with the red.
That has taught me a lot.
So with the arrival of Spring came a rise in temperatures and everything in the yard is so lush and green I have been slowly adding bits of green to our home in light shades of Spring green.
Moss and celery green on the mantel.
The same green echoes in the colors of antique books.
This non flower floral arrangement is nothing but Spring clipping from our yard.
Spring Oak, Japanese Maple and a variegated Euonymus
Our white couch got a switch from it’s usual gray velvet pillows with damask green and gray pillows that I made from a fabric remnant ( from my fabric hoard!). Above that are two (thrifted) antique botanical magnolia studies on canvas with a multitude of green in olive tones that I have had for several years.
This is all just simple spruce ups for Spring.
No big cash outlay, no big shopping trips, just shopping my house and my yard 🙂
Have a great weekend 🙂
