Me and Big Daddy cut up an old vanity ya’ll…….and not a single curse word was uttered.
Nobody is more surprised that we are 🙂
The worst part of all of this?
I was so sure we would totally destroy it that this is the only before photo I took.
This one photo tells a lot though. If you look up at the top of the photo you are looking at the underside of the vanity’s top. See those two screws/ screw holes ? Thats all that was holding the top on, a pair on each side. Once we un screwed those and got the top off the rest was easy. Big Daddy then cut the frame that held the big middle drawer away from the side drawer with hand saw and that was it. Honest to God.
I was left with me with two perfect bedside tables…….. without tops.
We chose to not attempt to cut up the original maple top because we know our limits, so off to Lowes I went. I had it in my brain that I could just get a big long piece of lumber and have them cut it in to two tops. I even had a big long board in my chart. And then I found this:
Ten bucks and finish grade 🙂
The really cool part about this shelf board is that when it was cut in half by the nice man at Lowes it was the perfect size for each top !
Perfect fit!
When I got back home I took a coarse grit sanding sponge and went over the cut edges to get rid of any splintered wood and stained each with Minwax Dark Walnut stain. I love the look of it on pine especially.
Oh these bedsides are so lovey! The tops I am really pleased with :)))
The cup pulls I found on Amazon and I will include the link at the bottom of this post ( as well as everything else that was used on this project) as they are nice and quite affordable.
This is the detail on the vanity that actually sucked me in at the Goodwill, so cute! I painted the bedsides in Dixie Belle Drop Cloth. It really brought out these curves.
This will not be the last deconstructing that me do. I really hope to write a tutorial for ya’ll.
Thanks for handing out with me tonight!

Congratulations – These turned out beautifully! The shelf board was a real find. I am always amazed when you are looking for something that you know you will need to adjust and finesse, but instead find exactly what you need!!! I think these two side tables are actually more useful than they were as a desk. Brilliant repurposing !!
