I found the most amazing deal on an oak dining table back in the Fall. A very nice lady that works at the Red Lobster in Asheville had posted it on FB Marketplace for ten buck and you know I was all over that till I got it. It was heavy as Hell and needed a scrub but other than that it was in really good shape. Well, in excellent shape as my $10 finds go. They are usually falling apart and stink! Big Daddy was still bed ridden so I shoved it in The Hell Hole until the day came when our lives were simpler and I had time to clean it up.
Well ya’ll, that day was Saturday :)))
I had already sanded down the top and stained it in Minwax Dark Walnut when this photo was taken.
Nice turned legs on this one too.
I painted the apron and legs with Fusion Mineral Paint in Ash. Fusion paint has a built in top coat which I wasn’t too sure about at first but now I am sold on it. I love the way the Dark Walnut plays with the Ash. In my opinion this combination brought table to (a current) life. But the real show here is that top!
The oil based polyurethane that I sealed the table top with raised the grain a bit so I used a fine grit sanding sponge and went over the entire top and the edges to smooth it back to a silky finish. After removing the dust I applied the last coat of poly with a lint free cloth. I wish ya’ll could run your hand across it. It is so silky smooth.
The two French bistro chairs were Habitat Restore finds for $10 each and they look so nice against the darker oak top. The chairs needed a scrub also but that was it.
The set is quite stylish in my opinion!
Someone is getting a really sold dining set with these. Here are a couple of photos from down at my shop, all dolled up for Spring.
I have had everything on the table chipmunked away for months just waiting for the table to present them on. The gray ticking striped bench I finished a couple of weeks ago and I love how it looks with the table and chairs.
One more…….
Oh!
And here are my new penguin feety pajamas :)))

Gorgeous! Like a lot of people, I have not been a big fan of oak over the years, although its attributes as a sturdy hardwood are its saving grace, and it’s very hard to resist this nice table with its new darker top stain. Alas, the golden oak has been so over-used, unfortunately, but this darker stain is perfect with the Ash paint and gives more substance to the finish than the golden version. And the chairs are terrific with it, too – just lovely. But, seriously, I just adore your bunny plates. Nice job on the whole ensemble!

Leslie thank you! Antique oak was always my Mama’s favorite and here home was full of it. She was a terrific collector of oak. Those bunny plates are from Hobby Lobby and they are 40% off right now:)
