Big Daddy and I have met some really nice people in our quest for furniture and cast iron……and surprisingly very few buttholes. And thank God for that. I bet y’all have never seen the word butthole in any DIY of furniture blog like, EVER. People there is a first time for everything. I am really amazed at how long it has taken me to use it . It is one of my favorites in my swear word arcinal 🙂
We hit the Muthaload in this very nice man named Gordon’s garage last Saturday. This antique vanity was one of the pieces that we brought home. I didn’t think in a million years that I could afford it. I’m pretty sure Gordon just wanted rid of it. Well, rid of it and the on behind it.
Both went home with me!
The top sanded down really well. The wood was beautiful and I decided to keep the finish simple and just use hemp oil on the top.
Navy is such a classic.
The original hardware holes were 2″ on center.
Do you have any idea how unbelievably hard it is to find stylish 2″ on center pulls???
Alas I resorted to Ebay.
These four Hepplewhite pulls were in my budget but so corroded you could barely tell they were Hepplewhite. So I went to the grocery near me and come home with a $3.48 liquid brass cleaner that actually worked!
Ya’ll run to Michaels.
They have a gob of these bouquets for Spring. I am just in love with these peonies!
For artificial florals they are just beautiful.
I used a roughly 50/50 mix of General finishes Costal Blue milk paint and Midnight blue chalk paint. I didn’t have enough of either one to finish the piece and I am kinda glad. I am also really glad I went with the navy’s.
At this moment I can absolutely understand why people can not refinish furniture for profit. They can not part with the pieces they paint. I totally understand it based on this piece. It really wasn’t anything special until the navy paint came along.
I hope this is not our last trip to Gordon’s garage.
Have a great weekend y’all!
Paige

What a beautiful piece – so useful in so many different ways. Even though it’s an old piece, you made it look new, but still keeping the character and the beauty! Another winner – that navy is so so pretty!
