****** Beer and a Lawn Chair Alert******
Definition: When a blog post is so long that you might want to have a seat and a drink before we go any further 🙂
Ya’ll our Christmas dining room is really simple but I swear I had so much fun decorating it! I used lots of natural elements, evergreens, pinecones and pretty wrapped gifts. I have walked through there all day with a smile on my face. I’ve caught Big Daddy enjoying the view a couple of times today also and that always brings a smile to my face !
I found three of these zinc cottages on clearance at Kmart a couple of years ago and loved them. Last year I found one for $3 in the Target Dollar Spot. Now? They are all over the place. My latest acquisition is the big three story one from Walmart for $15. I knew I wanted to display them all together so I used a couple of yards of white cotton duck fabric and just loosely arranged it and made sure that the raw edges were tucked under. Then I arranged the zinc houses in such a way that no matter which direction that I walked through the house, the arrangement was pleasing.
This little one with the scalloped roof edge is my very favorite 🙂
The twig cones are from Hobby Lobby and the mossy green velvet pillows were a Goodwill find. They were band new from World Market and still had the tags on them.
The antique dresser was the very first piece of furniture that Big Daddy and I ever bought nearly 30 years ago and it is my favorite piece in the house. I love to restyle it for Christmas.
Just a few wrapped gifts in coordinating papers can be a nice display anywhere in your home. I found both papers, the Joy and the pine needle paper at Homegoods for $3 a roll. The cedar pine cones and the cypress are from my yard.
Now I will tell y’all right now that I did have to thin out this coat rack. Big Daddy has an ungodly collection of coated and apparently he needs to see them all at one time on this rack. Glossy Magnolia and big sugar pinecones make a nice impact when displayed at the holidays and I use them both religiously.
I tend to pick up a few stockings just for decorating. We have our personal stockings so if I happen to see stockings that would work well in a room of our house in terms of decor I get them. These cable knit stockings I grabbed this year at Michaels for about $6 each with their coupons. Since our actual stockings are packed away in the attic we will be stuffing these this year. You gotta love a man who sneaks downstairs on Christmas Eve and puts goodies in my stocking.
I did the chalkboard several years ago and It is still a favorite. The quote is from Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol and it is very special to us. If you haven’t seen the Man Who Invented Christmas, do it! It is quite inspiring.
My friend and fellow mammographer Carole Ann eats French yogurt every day. I thought her little yogurt jars would be perfect for tea lights to scatter around at the holidays. Thanks Carole Ann :)))
So there you have it, our dining room at Christmas ! I hope I have inspired y’all just a bit to take a walk outside to see what evergreens you can find or wrap up a few boxes in pretty paper and saved ribbons, use what you’ve got in a different way or different room.
Merry Christmas
