Every November I break my little neck to be in downtown Brevard, North Carolina at 6:45 am for the best church rummage sale I have ever been to. Period. It is held at The First Methodist church and it begins in a whirl of activity at 7:30 am sharp! I am here to tell ya’ll that I have made some hauls at this event. But not this year. Oh I did alright, but it was far from previous years when I left there looking like the Clampetts .
I did manage to snag an antique desk with all of it’s Hepplewhite pulls still in tact though…….
I did not however remember to take a before photo………
This thing had me at the curvy details at the bottoms of each set of drawers. Well, that and the $20 price tag :))).
Ok, that, the $20 price tag and the fact that all of the Hepplewhite pulls were intact!
Hardware can break you. Plus Hepplewhite pulls are my very favorite .
I think they are so stylish and timeless.
I refinished the top with Dark Walnut stain and sealed it with Annie Sloan clear wax. When the nice men from the Methodist church were loading this desk in to the back of my Jeep I noticed that the previous owner had mounted an old school pencil sharpener to the right corner.
It was held in place with four tiny screws.
I decided not to fill these. I think it is nice to be reminded of a newly refinished piece’s former life.
It is rainy and cold here today…….
The perfect weather for Christmas decorating, if you ask me 🙂

See ?!? I learn so much from you! I didn’t know they were called Hepplewhite pulls! I love them too! My Grandmother’s Tambour desk has them, and I have always thought they are beautiful and unique. I am so glad you left in the holes where the pencil sharpener sat. Very respectful of the history of this desk, while preparing it for it’s new life! I wish it was rainy and cold here, it would be such a welcome change. Hope you are both feeling a bit better!
