Ya’ll I have a tremendous newfound respect for people in Home Health. It is unbelievably hard. Especially when your husband is your patient. And your patient can not walk. We are over a month in to this Big Daddy ruptured his Achilles adventure with no end in sight. In our 31 years together this is defiantly not the worst of the For Worse. Let me just say that. But the pain he’s experiencing is awful. And he can’t always reach for the pain meds…..unless you want to die of a bowel obstruction. Now Big Daddy historically does not suffer well. But this go around he has been a model patient. But I have an actual Day Job so he is left by himself a lot and he is a really good sport about that. I would be climbing the walls…….
OK. Onward……..
A few weeks ago I was flipping through Facebook and ran across something I very seldom find, a antique buffet in my budget.
OK let me just tell ya’ll right now that this little buffet is the first piece of furniture that I have brought in to the house to paint since these two wild hyenas came to live with us. Oh it was a show! Lily was swinging on those legs like she had a job at The Gentleman’s Club!!! The funny part was washing the Duck Egg blue paint off of her in the kitchen sink.
Fact.
I love me some Duck Egg but it is the hardest color to photograph.
This antique buffet belonged to a friend of mine from high school and it was in absolutely perfect shape! I do not get that luxury very often at all. I painted the body of the buffet in two coats of Annie Sloan Duck Egg and refinished the top with Minwax Dark Walnut. This is my very favorite color/stain combination. That little edge detail was tricky. For some reason I always paint first and sand down tops and stain them last. For this project it was definitely the way to go. It kept that edge clean and well defined.
This piece has some lovely details like those legs!
And it is really nice when the original hardware is this pretty.
I got a message this morning from the sweet lady who bought the antique china cabinet that I also painted in Duck Egg asking about this piece.
They would make a lovely pair!
