Big Daddy has remarked several times lately that I have all but quit distressing my pieces. I haven’t really thought about it but he is correct. I love a bit of distressing but it makes the piece more casual in my opinion. To me a really good paint job has just the opposite effect. I don’t think I am done with distressing . I think my paint jobs have just gotten better and sometimes it’s better just leave well enough alone.
Thoughts?
So a couple of weeks ago I picked up this very HEAVY and very orange dresser. The little curvy detail at the bottom was exactly what sucked me in yet it sat in the garage till now.
It took me some time to stop staring at the orange and get a vision in my crazy little head 🙂
Enter Country Chic paint.
There packaging is just darling!
So Wandress is a turquoise color so I was all in on it. The turquoises / teals / aquas have to be the hardest color to photograph on God’s green earth. Yet I still keep buying them . I am a hardhead to the bone. My next door neighbor Chris says if you’re gonna have a hard head you better have a hard A$$, cased it’s gonna get beat a lot.
I’ll cop to that.
My entire life.
I painted this dresser in three coats of Wandress and stained the top and drawers with Special Walnut. I sealed the entire piece with General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in satin. I have been wanting to try this two toned effect for a while and I an really glad I stuck my neck out on this dresser. I don’t think it will be my last one either. The hardest part of this makeover was finding knobs!
I found this set of 6 on Amazon $11. Less than two bust per knob and on my front porch in two days?
Yes please!
There is a mix of photos in this post, some outside and some in my shop. I tried really hard to convey the true color that is Wandress.
The pair of lamps were a Goodwill find and I mean a FIND at eight buck each ! I had the shades and the finials in my hoard . I love the combination with the turquoise dresser and cream and gold knobs.
Happy Saturday ya’ll!

It looks like my mother’s 1930s maple Hope Chest, and Headboard. Also VERY heavy. 😉 I have a desk from someone else’s similar set that has the same drawer pulls. You did a beautiful job. Love color and the new pulls.
