According to antiquefurniture.net the antique drum table is the second most common form of antique furniture there is. They were quite popular in England during
the 18th and 19th centuries. The website goes on to say that the piece was specifically designed to look impressive from 360 degrees.
Well you can always reel me in with one. That is a proven fact.
Ya’ll I am slacking.
I can not believe this is the only before photo that I took of this new old drum table. Last Saturday was one of two day per year that our Habitat Restore has 25% off the entire store. I picked up the latest drum ( I’m pretty sure this in #10 for me……Lord I love ’em!!) for about twenty bucks because of the shape it was in, pretty rough. But it did have a few things going for it. It is quite sturdy, has a drawer with the original knob and it has all of it’s toes.
All for about twenty bucks 🙂
This lovely creamy white is Dixie Belle Fluff.
Now. Correct me if I am wrong. It is funny to me that a paint company with the word Dixie in it has a paint color named after a Northern marshmallow cream :0. Down South we have JetPuffed.
Just sayin’.
It took at least three coats of Fluff to cover this really dark mahogany table. And I must tell you that after the first coat I was just about to have a fit. There were several spots all over it that looked as though it was going to bleed through and you better believe that I was panicking. As luck would have it I had other things to do and that allowed that first coat to dry really thoroughly. Now that not my usual situation. I almost always paint my coats in quick succession. So the next day I painted the next two coats of Fluff and they were perfect.
The top was sanded and restrained using Minwax Dark Walnut. About 36 hours later I sealed everything with Annie sloan clear soft wax.
You gotta love a big pile of Heirloom pumpkins .
They make me smile 🙂
I love it when the original hardware is this beautiful. It is a luxury I do not have often. From a business standpoint it’s nice to find a good piece of furniture at a nice price and then not have to blow you margin on hardware.
Can I get an Amen?
Nice curvy pedestal.
We are in our first cold snap of the season and I have a garage full of stuff that needs to be sanded…….
This weekend I bet I freeze my butt off ya’ll.

Beautiful job bringing this drum table back to life! I LOVE it! $20 to buy it, even in its condition was a steal!

Again — classic, simple and stunning. If the piece was in bad shape, I can’t tell from the top of it. The treatment you gave to the top really brought the wood grain to life. I have a house full of mahogany, thanks to my mother and my grandmother, so I have a special appreciation and affection for it. You have given this piece a brand new life, without compromising it’s original beauty. Love the ‘toes’ and the knob, too!
