About three years ago I ran across an ad on Craigslist for a very reasonably priced antique oak dresser that turned out to be five minutes down the street from my house.
It belonged to a very nice family that had moved to Asheville from California. The husband had gotten another job transfer and they were right in the middle packing up to move cross country. This dresser was in the pile of things that would not be making the trip. The price was right and I really liked the hardware plus I needed the piece down in my shop. Well, Big Daddy took one look at it in the back of my Jeep and put his big old foot down. He loves everything I do and that keeps him in a job around here but he had never ask to keep a piece for our own home. So we moved it in to our living room and there it has sat. I thought I would get around to giving it a makeover but it became just like the Cobbler’s children…….Long story short? I don’t do a lot for us, Big Daddy and me. I am very blessed to have a thriving company and the vast majority of furniture I find goes straight down to my shop
So I had a junker out in our garage that fit that bill perfectly and I am saving that story for another day 🙂
But the first order of business was to finally give this neglected oak dresser it’s own makeover. I had a color in my crazy little head and no other one would do so my first step head out to my friend Sherry’s shop, The Pink House.
My friend Sherry is the local Annie Sloan stockist 🙂
Sherry sold me my very first can of AS paint 4 1/2 years ago when I needed it the most.
She is precious to me.
Olive was the color in my crazy little head .
Annie Sloan Olive is a deep rich green with brown undertones. It was a bit tricky to photograph but I took photos outdoors and down at my shop. Hopefully the depth of the color conveys from these photos. I just love it!
I sanded the top of the dresser down and used Minwax Dark Walnut stain on the top. It looks really pretty against the rich olive paint.
The key is just one out of a pile I have collected over the years. I doesn’t work the lock but I think it is so lovely.
Here it is down in my shop.
The above photo is the closest to the actual color.
Have a great week!
