When it come to classic and classy colors navy is at the top of my list.
Navy is one of those colors that can really polish up a room or an outfit or in this case a maple chest of drawers I bought off Facebook Marketplace 🙂
Not a thing in the world wrong with this one.
It’s just a bit tired and orange. I drove to pick this thing up at 7:30 in the morning. It was well worth it. It is in perfect shape.
In the little rathole that is my paint cabinet I had both General Finishes Costal Blue milk paint and Midnight Blue chalk paint but I didn’t have enough of either one to paint the three coats it was going to take me to get the color saturation that I wanted. So I just mixed them together in one can and painted my little heart out. Both of these General Finishes colors are a deep rich navy. You really can’t go wrong either color so I didn’t even hesitate about mixing them.
The cup pulls are very close to a galvanized metal. I ordered them from Home Depot and saved the shipping cost by having them shipped to the store. The color is called Black Iron.
The knob came from my neighbor Shannon. She gave me a big bag of them when she changed out the ones in her kitchen. What luck! They match the cup pulls really well.
The top of this chest had several big gouges and one really long scrape in it but it sanded down perfectly with my orbital sander. I finished it off Annie Sloan Dark Wax. I wasn’t really too particular about the gouges . I like the way that wax settles in to the small holes and imperfections.
I’d really love to keep this one.
But alas it is soon headed to the shop.
Currently everything in my house that I even remotely think I may use to style my mantle for Fall is piled up on my hearth.
Mac and Lily are having a field day.
Lord help us all…….

Wow – you mixed a milk paint and a chalk paint? I don’t know much about either of these two types of paints, but that strikes me as very gutsy! And your results are beautiful! I love the knobs on the top drawer — that detail is perfect! I was reading the title of the books you staged it with…have you ever seen the tv production of “Brideshead Revisited” with Jeremy Irons? It’s old….I think it was produced in the 70’s, but it’s a wonderful production!
Hope you all stayed safe during Florence; the damage is truly staggering.
