I mentioned in my last post that I had painted two big pieces of furniture in my latest obsession, Dixie Belle Hurricane gray then I remembered I forgot to share the big oak pedestal table I finished about two weeks ago. I really got a great deal on a truly gently used oak dining table 🙂
That top had a few scratches and it was a veneer but If you sand carefully it’s no harm no foul.
The key is to just take your time and do not lean on you sander.
I always have to learn the hard way personally.
I stained this top with Minwax Special Walnut and sealed it with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat and I am so happy with how it turned out! I really do not do a lot of oak pieces, mostly because I just don’t find a lot in my price range. They always turn out really well though, with that really pronounced grain.
I painted the pedestal in two coats of Hurricane gray to achieve this finish.
I must say this paint covers very well. It goes on really smooth and the color is a beautiful warm gray.
In fact I love this color so much that I am about to paint a piece for our living room in it as well.
I never get tired of using antique books in our home 🙂
I have collected a bunch in greens that seem to just go anywhere.
Here it is down at the shop.
