I went back for another color of that Dixie Belle paint ya’ll.
Big shock, I am sure 🙂
This is Hurricane Gray
Now I have said this before. In my experience the color gray pulls either blue or brown. This particular gray pulls just enough brown to we warm, if that makes any sense at all. Here’s how this antique chest of drawers started out:
I found it at my Habitat Restore pretty beat up and very RED.
Cheap but red.
It did take a while to sand through all red stain on the top but it was well worth it in the end.
I finished this top with Minwax Dark Walnut stain and waited for 48 hours before I applied Annie Sloan Clear wax for my topcoat. I seem to be in a groove with Dark Walnut. I get a lot of questions about why I refinish tops of most of my pieces of furniture as apposed to painting those tops. The short answer is I truly think that they wear better. Period. But I also really love the contrast between paint and wood.
Just my opinion.
This is such a lovely gray ya’ll.
When I very first saw this chest of drawers in the Habitat I knew right then and there that It would benefit from some cup pulls. I also knew that I would need a minimum of 8. Ya’ll, cup pulls are usually not cheap. But I found these on Amazon for a sweet deal. Now let me just say and I have found several sweet deals that arrived on my front porch and right back to the seller they went. These cup pulls are sold and substantial, regardless of the $$.
They are 2.5″ pulls and the antique brass finish is really nice.
$1.53 each ya’ll.

I had to pass this deal on or it would be 17 kinds of wrong.
2 bucks each 🙂
So I went to the Hobby Lobby and came out with 4 pairs of cream colored knobs. These drops were the winner. I am really loving the cream with the Hurricane gray. It seems to soften up the masculine piece just a bit.
Two coats of the Hurricane covered perfectly, red and all.
I am writing this out on our front porch.
Big Daddy just fed us a big good breakfast and we are enjoying the beautiful Sunday morning:)
I hope ya’ll are as well 🙂

My mother picked up a chest of drawers just like this, and I used it for years. Even though it eventually migrated out to the garage to serve as a storage unit, I still wanted to try my hand at painting it, but Sailor insisted on donating it. I am so glad you used the cup pulls….the original handles were not pretty! It’s amazing how these well-used but sad dressers just perk right up after you have worked your miracles on them !!
