So here’s a shock:
I have been back to my Goodwill twice since my last post………….and the hits just keep on coming:)))
Dated and beat to hell but good bones.
By the time I got someone to help me with this little side table the guy with the pricing gun marked it down to $6. Most of the time I make my decision on the color I am going to paint something in the car as I am driving away with my score. For some reason I was coming up blank as could be on this one. I decided to just clean out my paint cabinet and see what I had to choose from. Well that led to cleaning out and organizing my knob and pull hoard and so on. I came away form that experience with two things:
1. I need better organization skills
2. I have a problem with blue paint colors…….particularly turquoise.
So I lined up four partial cans of various shades of blues and went out to the driveway and sanded down both the top of the table as well as that shelf underneath. I also went ahead and stained them with my new favorite Dark Walnut and put this project to bed for the night.
The next morning I was raring to go!
General Finishes Charleston Blue how I love you:)
These photos are a really good representation of this color. In my opinion it is a soft Tiffany Blue with a tiny bit of green.
Last summer I bought an East Lake dresser from a nice woman just down the street from me that has pulls just like this. All six of the pulls were there except one of them was missed it’s bail. I found a replacement pull on line and order it. When it came in the mail I immediately wet to put the new one on and found the original bail part in one of the drawers.
Big Daddy always says, ‘It’s a good thing you’re pretty baby.”
I think the color really brings out all of the curves and details on this sweet little piece. I love this color to pieces but in all honesty the top is my favorite.
This is exactly one application of Minwax Dark Walnut stain and one application of General Finishes Gell Topcoat. Both of which were wiped on with a lint free shop towel.
As I was sanding, painting and finishing this piece it occurred to me more Thant once that it would make a great first refinishing project. I on the other had picked a 90″ table with a broken leg and 5 very detailed chairs that also need the seats upholstered as my first project.
Good thing Big Daddy thinks I’m pretty:)

You really are on a roll! Your vision on what color to paint is astonishing. The piece looked very challenging but the end result is beautiful. I especially like the handle on it — so unique!

Hi! I was at Sweeten Creek Antique Mall yesterday and discovered your both. I actually saw you painting a piece there :-). Anyway after I walked around a bit, I came back to your booth, but you were gone. Picked up one of your cards and found your blog. Nice to “meet” you. I too paint furniture…now just for fun but I did have a booth at Needful Things Antique Mall for a few years. Love the color you painted this piece.
